So my question is did 1983 honda 200e's have decompression releases that hooked to the pull start? i have two of them i recently bought and one has just a simple pull start and the other pull start is apart but there is a place for a decompression cable for the release. both are 1983 200e's too. how does the compression release work? everytime you pull start it the cable pulls on the compression release so its easier and quicker or something? i also dont see where the cable would hook to the compression release lever either. this would clear up a lot of confusion! Thanks

My 83 just has a lever to pull up by hand. You pull the lever up pull the rewind while pulling it the valve movement kicks the lever back down. Then I just repeat the process if I need to pull lever pull rewind. Pull lever pull rewind.

it is a manual release lever, pull it up and it pushes slightly onthe rocker arm that causes the exhaust valve to open jut slightly enought to release some compression to get it rotating easier on manual startups. (not needed when using the electric start and it is awesome having electric start!!!!)
you just pull the lever up and it will stay in the up position till you pull the pull rope.

To answer the other part of your question (almost, sorta): the 84 200ES did not connect the pull start to the decomp lever. As the other above pointed out, you just manually flip the lever, then pull. I'm almost positive that the 83 200E is the same motor (other than the chain drive to shaft drive upgrade on 84) so that would mean that 83 is also a manual decomp.

My guess is that the other pull-start is not original to the machine.

The '83 200E does not have a decompression release in the pull start itself. It's located on the top of the cylinder head on the right side. I'm not sure why the pull start on one of your 200E's has a place for a release cable. My only thought is that the pull start may have come off another model. For example, my '83 200 (not the 200E), has the decompression cable mounted to the pull start release.

^ all honda top ends from 81-85 were the exact same. (200cc not 250 and speaking about trikes) now they may have put in a slightly domed pisotn or hotter cam, but the heads, valves and bores were the same.

All the 200's that came with electric start (200m, 200es, 200e) never had that cable, just the manual lever.

okay this cleared up a lot of confusion and i thought it might have come off another 3 wheeler model too. Thanks!
