Ok...so my R has developed a leak around the shifter shaft....I have already put in a new seal with no luck, I am being told that the R's are known for leaks in this area...is this true? and if so, what have you guys done to fix it?
Thanks

I've never owned an R so im not the most reliable source on this.. but if you put a new seal in.. could the shift shaft be bent possibly?

^ Bingo. The shafts get bent or the new seal gets damaged when the splined shaft goes back in...

The shaft does not "look" bent, but it could be I guess....I am pretty sure I did not damage the seal on installation.....so is the only fix to split the cases and replace the shifter shaft? or do any of you smarter than me guys have a simpler fix.....

Nope, that is the simple fix.
Aside from pitting or scoring at the seals home, the only thing I find is a bent shaft.
Straighten it at a machine shop and then use the "drug dealers" plastic pocket with grease on it to slide it in the new 8$ seal...........
