I would gues 81-82, this is a 250r right? The swing arm looks custom fabricated or something. Anyways I dont recognise it any. And I dont remeber anything with a gold mono shock, anyways 83 has blue and up have it.
SEAN. No problem. That is a 84/85 frame w/ a 86/87 sringarm, a 86/87 linkage, a 84/85 axle/carrior/brakes/sprocket, and a 86/87 shock. I am not sure what the piviot is from. Maybe "JEB" or "HAGEN" can tell you more. I'm am not sure if the guy that built it had to modify anything to make it work. I'd need to see it in person to tell. You might want to change the title of the post to get the "tecate guys" involved. I have a 84 swingarm here and the linkage if you want to go back to stock.

I would have to agree with mik.The swingarm, link and pivot for the shock are of an 86,87 tecate 3.The shock, bearing carrier are definitely off an 84,85 model.I'am not sure about the axle,it has the 84,85 brake disk on it.So what you have there are two different year bikes, made into one.Nothing wrong with it as long as it works, from the pictures it looks to be alright.

Am I under the understanding that an 86 swing arm will fit on earlier year tecates? I was told by someone from this board that the two would not interchange. If they will ,I know what my next upgrade on my 84 tecate will be. :D

Your understanding that correctly! As long as the distance between the frame is the same,or within close tolorance they will fit.For example:My cousin had a kx 500,around the same year as my tecate.Just for the shits and giggles of things,we measured out the frames and swing arms. Also the head for the mount on the triple trees. They were exactly the same.So we switched the two from the tecate to the kx 500.Instant 500 tecate. It wouldn't have made a good woods bike, but one hell of a flat tracker.Due to the frame being taller on the kx500.Hell of a ride.
tecatecrazy you are correct. They should NOT interchange, BUT it has been done. I have never seen a 86/87 swingarm stuck in a 85 T3 before this 1, it might have been modified to fit. I don't think the sprockets will line up rite if you don't mod it. I had a 85 carrior/axle on my 87T3 when I got it, but they did not change the swingarm. Its all stock now. It has a 86/87 brake line too I just noticed that. Im not sure how the linkage will work w/ the 85 frame geometry. but the 86 shock is a cool thing to have.
SEAN I'll have to stop in the next time I'm in Buffallo!! Get me alist of stuff you think it needs and I'll see what I have laying around.

I had considered bidding on several of howdys 86 rearend parts that he had listed on ebay last week to improve my 84s suspension but thought that was too risky since I was unable to determine the interchangability. I would love to get my hands on an 86 shock if I had the money right now, but with christmas nearing, my trike and I will have to wait till spring.---Joe
