I had fun about a month back taking the '85 350X out. This was the first time I had ridden one. After being on Tri Z's, 250R's and the host of 2 stroke 500's and 550's I had...the 350X felt a bit flat.

Once I learned how to really let the powerband pull me and wind it out...I had a blast. Especially on up hills and tighter spaces. I actually grew very impressed with the motor and the whole machine.

A few shots of her from that day....173631173633

And that is why I'm not going all out with my X resto. I intend to ride it, not show it. I can't afford certain hard to find parts, so, I will substatute a few things to make it 100%, look great, and be a trail bike.

Very nice X though!

It takes a while to get into the "zone" of a 350x after dirt bkies and bigger and badder cc customs. I have rode a lot of wheels....and it still has my heart on the hills!! Glad ya liked it and if it was mine....I would ride it just like you did....or at least try...... Nicefreakin ride!!

I few things I noticed on the 86 that the 85 does not have:

- polished aluminum rims (the '85's are more matted)
- welded one piece rims (or something like that)
- different clutch cable routing
- more orange color to all the red parts. The shrouds, headlight and even frame is slightly more orange than the '85 red.

Lots of differences... seems like we typed up 60-70 some differences years ago.... One thing I am interested in, did you put the side decals on your 86 rear plastics or was that originally how it came? I know the 86 HONDA brochure shows them, but anywhere else I never seem them on the 86. (magazine tests, pictures, etc) Curious...
