Having an issue with my 84 200s stalling once its hot it runs great other wize .

Recently put a new rickystator in it and the carb was redone with OEM parts on unrelated issues so its not those

It starts right back up a minuet or two after it stalls i am pretty stumped . Can these things vapor lock ?

PS i tried to run it with out gas cap still does it

Plug fouling? Although it does start back up again, but just a suggestion.

I have seen this problem before when the ignition coil (to the spark plug) was going bad. You can test it yourself, just have a look at the manual, you just need a volt/ohm meter and check the coil OHMs per manual. You can also test the ohms going to the stator coil, just to be sure that one is not faulty.

Hummm thanks I will check the coil when its hot and see what it reads .

I think you can get a new coil for $10 for these things. I would buy a new one anyway.

One thing to watch for.... an ignition coil or a stator may test out as perfectly fine when cold, but will fail when hot. Try to get the bike to warm up until it stalls, THEN test the components. CDI boxes can do this as well, I've pulled a few apart and found the solder that connects the pins to the board have melted. Unfortunatly honda CDI's are epoxy potted and can't be fixed.

If not electronics you may have some floaters in your float bowl that are plugging up your jets and then dropping back down into the bowl after it stalls.

i think you could have a fueling issue. when was the last time you took the carb appart and cleaned it up perfectly clean? if it has been a while, may try that if coil tests ok. when i first got my 200x it did the same thing. i ended yup hacing to over adjsut the idle screw, set the needle to 1 from the top and put in a bigger jet. no more problems and runs like a scalded cat!

The carb was totally rebuilt with oem parts . And it was doing it before i rebuilt the carb

After testing the coil it was good . Turned out to be the new stator from ricky stator the lead where it solders on was loose and melted when it warmed up

I wish they still sold oem source coils all of the aftermarket ones are crap it seems didnt even last 2 months

I had that happen on a ricky stator as well... How i fixed it was to get a crimp terminal, such as a ring terminal, cut the ring portion off so you just have the back sleeve part of it that crimps onto the wire then put that over the wire that goes to the wire from the coil, crimp em together and then solder the buggers. The crimp will add some mechanical strength to the solder joint. That one about drove me to drinking when the owner rolled it off the trailer swearing at it. I finally tore it all apart and found the same thing you did.

My guess, they used regular old rosin core solder, they should have used higher temp silver solder or at least high temp tin alloy to prevent melting.

Thanks but I am not sure this ones fixable . Plastic melted and the piece where you solder to fell off as well

Sounds like nothings changed out there.. Why do companies sell crap?

note to self. do not use a ricky stator. new stuff is junk.
ok who else sells upgraded stators?

Cant find a source suprised honda dont provide an oem source coil anymore i would gladly shell out the money for oem. Ricky stator did send a free replacement and my 200x has one also still going good . Hope it was just a freak thing .

i was gonna say if you didn't find out your problem, (if its not the stator) its your head gasket that's shot. That is if it stalls when when your idling.

I haven't ready any responses but I'll give you mine.

Some electrical parts (stators - pick up parts - coil for the plug and so on) that are tired and old (like me :D ) will have more or less resistance based on temperature so you and Mr. OHMM meter can figure that out.

Other things are valve and piston/rings clearances. Will it still blow your thumb off the spark plug hole once it's hot??, your top end should be AOK. Not everyone has a compression tester so the rule of "thumb " applies here.

Toss in a new plug and see what happens when it dies. Something silly is acting up on you...

It was the faulty stator lol the plastic was soft when it got hot i actually found this out test riding it hit a good bump and it finally failed for good lol

when my wires were all dried up and cracked on my OEM stator on my 200e went i just went o the local Crappy tire and bought the same color and gauge of wire and re soldered it ALL MYSELF, and its been working great but now have other issues to deal with like my bike will start first pull cold or warm and it will idle forever but soon as i go to ride it or rev it up its seems to die and it WONT restart again until COOL, is it what i figure and its time to install the new rings and rebuild it?, sorry for the HI JACK and thanks for any info.
