Got home from work, was dialing a boat shops number ( My other hobby ) and figured i'd check kijiji while on hold.
Low and behold, " Honda 350x runs great " for 600 $

Called the guy, he told me his son decided to keep it , and he isn't selling it anymore. So i offer him 700, he takes it.
Drive 15 minutes to his house, loaded her up.

Story goes that he bought it from the US in 91, rode on and off untill 2008, lost interest and parked it.

Runs great, ticks quite loud. Valve clearance and timing chain are aok. The rockers have side to side play, which means the rocker arm pins are worn, correct?

Here is some pictures. Original , untouched machine. needs some lovin, but she will be good as new within a week.
P.S Had airfilter, I took it off for that picture to show was sitting for 5 years can do.

I'll be on kijiji hoping for another deal..... but I doubt it, finding two good deals in a row is very rare for this area....

Yes they are original tires. The front tire has some splitting, but both rear tires are in good shape... just a little low on tread.

Its coming apart this weekend for a complete going through. Going to shim the rocker pins (unless they're damaged severely) which means pulling the motor anyway( Because I hate servicing the head in the frame... easier to just pull the motor ), so I might aswell just take everything else apart for inspection. All bearings seem great, but i expect them to be seized from sitting. Time will tell.

I'll keep this thread updated.

Rocker valve adjusting nuts (1 of 4 ) may be loose or the decomp cable hanging up.

Don't beat on it yet, check that chit out!!

Timing chains never seem to get noisy on the X.

Plenty of good oil in there??

I've checked all the valve clearances and put them in spec. Nuts were fine. Or is there other nuts?
I've put maybe 1 minute on the motor. I am a maintenance nazi, I can't stand the slightest of ticks. But this one is a BIG tick.
How would I know if the decomp cable is hanging up? I can move the lever up ( on the head ), and there is no resistance when I do so. Cable does not work at all with the kickstart. I know there is something up with the decomp cable.. well I hope so anyway. I'm just not 100 percent sure what my lever should feel like. But I assume it should have resistance. ( I have another X, just never had a problem with the decomp so i have never felt the lever before... lol )

I drained the oil out and put a fresh filter and fresh oil in it when I got it.

The. p o crossthreaded the first 3 turns of the spark plug, so regardless of what is up in the head, the head is coming off so i can take care of that. Already have all the gaskets , seals, o rings, dowls, etc.

Bad news today, pulled the rocker box cover, cam journals in the head are toasted. Guess the guy should of changed his oil a little more than he did. LOL. Anyways, the whole bike is in pieces and stripped down to a bare frame. Pictures will come when I am not on my phone. She will be getting all cleaned up, so I will be on the prowl for a good head. All in all, I'm still happy. Very nice parts on this machine.

Alright guys, I keep meaning to get around to a new thread for this with details / pictures. But here is how she sits now.
Runs great, just finished break in...

To do list. : fork seals, new fork boots,,,shifter then shes good enough for me.
Tires are temporary until I get around to putting different tires on the OEM wheels that came with the machine.

Very nice! Hell of a deal! I need to get crackin' on mine. Have about everything I get the roller 100%. What did ya end up doing with the head? Used, or cam journals bored out for needle bearings?

Thanks Buddy,

I ended up finding a real nice used head. New valves, new valve seats cut in the head, used springs that were well within specs, and a brand new honda cam.
Motor sounds great now.

Sweet. Mine had water in it when I picked it up back in May, and the valves are rusted. So, I need new valves and guides. Going with custom ground cam, hardweld rockers, and HD springs.
