Hello,

Last week, I picked up a 1985 Yamaha 225DX Tri Moto. The machine was sitting for 23 years untouched so I changed the oil/filter, spark plug, air filter and battery. It will need a carburetor as it is corroded inside.

When switching the lights from off to low then high, they don't come on.

Is there a fuse somewhere for just the lights? Does the engine need to be running in order for the lights to work? if so, do they run off of the stator? Switch seems to be good but haven't thoroughly checked it yet.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
IronBear

The engine has to be running for the lights to work. Post some pictures of your bike!

Thank you for the feedback Yamaha! I haven't had it running long enough to see the lights were working. My Big Red is setup differently where the lights will turn on with the key.

Anyway, below are some pictures of my machine:

That's a very clean looking DX. I'm sure she'll run as nice as she looks!

That is a very nice looking machine I wish I could find one with good plastics like that.

I need to rebuild the carburetor. Would you know if anyone offers a rebuild kit?

Thank you

This has been a topic of discussion many times. : )

There are no rebuild kits for our YTM'S. You have the option of using what parts you can from a timberwolf but somd parts of your carb will have to be reused. You also have to option to order each part individually from Yamaha but it adds up quick. Search YTM carb and you'll find the info. Nice trike!

A brand new carb from Yamaha is ~$300...FYI

Thanks Mackee. What year timberwolves are compatible?

I used a moose carb rebuild kit part number 17-2169 and it says on the package says that its for the yfb250/u 92-98 and yfb250fw 94-98.

Thanks guys,

I just ordered the Moose kit. What parts can I use from it? Hopefully the needle seat for the float with pin is compatible with mine. How about the main jet, pilot jet and gaskets?

I used everything but the main and it works good but I was told the reason why the pilot jet in my bike was too big when I got it was the guy I bought it from brought it from an area that's 4000 feet above sea level and I'm at sea level so you might call a local shop and see what they recommend for the jets.

I'm not planning on riding this trike much above sea level, just going to ride it around the yard, parades and local trails. :)
