View Full Version : I Finally Got My X!!!

So I did some late night Craig's List browsing last night after work. I found this 85 200 Auto-X for $400 OBO. It had been listed for 8 days. Figured it was long gone. Texted my best offer at 3 am. He returned my text at 6 am. I was on the road 30 mins later. Back home at 10. Didn't ask questions. .. Just handed cash over, loaded it, shook hands and I was back on the road in 5 minutes.

The little bit of info I got...

It's a 200m motor. Gas tank is steel, no dents, a few scratches. Missing grab bar and sprocket cover. The obviously butchered fenders. Half tread Ohtsu P/V H-Trak and Pro Vector H-Trak on back. Newish Nankang knobby on the front. For some reason it has a Yammie throttle control.

How'd I do boys?

You didn't tell us your best offer. I would say even at $400, its a runner and looks pretty decent. I am not big on the Auto X, but its a cool idea to say the least. Great grab and sounds like you stole it. Btw I hate when they chop the fenders up like that, race cut is one thing but notched just looks silly :wondering

swinger has been extended

chrome pull start cover

braided steel brake line

whats up with the rear brake pedal linkage?

My nephew eyes my 350X all the time, but there is no way a 11 year old with little experience is hitting that..

An AutoX would be a homerun with him. I could get into it from time to time also..

I'd have brought that home at $400.

That's super Uber!!

DasUberKraut

Let's say nowhere near $400 was even discussed.

What's wrong with the linkage? Everything seems to operate as it should.

different foot pedal on that bike vs stock. That's what manbearpic was referring to.

That's a 200S engine. No elec. starter on it. Decomp lever has a cable slot as well for the pull starter decomp.

DasUberKraut
06-21-2013, 03:57 PM
Where does the decomp cable connect to? I know the arm obviously. But where does the other side go?

The recoil .... but looks like you have a early 185 recoil with no hole . look at the cylinder to see if its 192cc or 180 cc and see what you got ..

If found that around my area for 400$, I would skip work and be on the way to pick that trike up instantly.

I think you did good. I picked up my auto x a while ago. Half a motor(put back together). Smokes. rough. I payed 350.

DasUberKraut
06-21-2013, 08:26 PM
That's funny Buck.

I got off work at 1 am. Couldn't sleep a wink waiting for his response. Went and got the X. I've been at work since 2:30. If it wasn't raining and crappy out all day I would have called in to ride. But today's shift is all overtime. So I'm not mad.

You guys would all kill me if you knew what I paid.

Now I'm throwing around the notion in my head to sell my 84 125m and stockpile of parts for it.

DasUberKraut
06-21-2013, 08:56 PM
So a couple things I just learned on lunch break.

It is a 200. 192 cm stamped on the jug. The carb float sticks. The exhaust is barely attached. And she's got a nice rap to her. Two parking lots of people stopped and looked at what all the racket was. LOL. Foot pegs are bent a little. Right grab bar mount is wee bit tweaked.

DasUberKraut
06-22-2013, 04:00 PM
So I hear a lot of people swap out the top ends on their 200s and 200m's with the top end from a 200x on their Auto-X's to get a little more power.

Just a thought. Would the top end from my XR250R fit on the 200 bottom end?

DasUberKraut
06-25-2013, 01:40 PM
Looked at my X a little closer today. Took some pics. I noticed the front fender is a Maier.

Both fork tube valves are trashed.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w33/Duggalo/IMG_20130625_120239_974_zps0aab4f32.jpg

The exhaust is too big for the head pipe. It's just sitting on there loose.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w33/Duggalo/IMG_20130625_115524_201_zpsdd09f341.jpg

After looking at this list, I would say that the carb came off of a motorcycle and is not matched to this engine.

Matching the carb model to the engine model and then verifying that the jets and settings match your carb model is a great starting point for dialing in the carb:

Can't seem to get my links to work, here is my original post:

I think it is out of a Haynes manual, because my Clymer manual has similar information on page 199, but it is condensed and harder to read.

So if I read the list right... tb05e-2100001~ = 1982 atc200 is my motor.

DasUberKraut

Looks like I'm going to need a new swinger. Mine is breaking apart where the mounting bolt goes through. I'll get a pic if I can get the phone at a good angle. Also the recoil for the pull start is going to need rebuilding. It works, but it's sticking now and then.

Took it for a quick spin down my street. She's got plenty of get up and go. Still haven't messed with the carb yet so it still dumps gas. I can't wait to get this out to a spot where I can open it up.

Edit - So it's 3:30 am and just pulled the carb off cause I'm bored. Now I can't find any proper adjusting info for my motor. I did find a list of cycles that carb was used on. Everything from 70's to 500's. CR's to XR's and everything in between.

Now I was always told if the carb is dumping gas and you're not sure what the float setting is. Just set it so it rests level on its own. Anyone know if there's truth in this? I can't think of any other reason it would be dumping gas other than floats are off.

5:30 am... Carb back on. Still dumping gas. Floats still off or possibly drain screw is fubar. It looks beat up.

Also. WTF is this? Tony Montana's secret stash? I opened this 82 185s carb to compare float level with the other carb. I found all this white crumbly powder stuff. Float bowl completely full.

I did it again! Scored this 86 200x wheelchair. $100. For those that are paying attention... The 85 was the same price. :trikesown

The question is....

Do I make the quad my runner or swap the good parts to my 85 200x? Decisions!

According to the VIN decoder. It's an 84 ATC 200x.

Is this one of those fancy front end kits?

KI4UJO
07-02-2013, 10:49 PM
This has an easy solution:
1. Use cut off wheel to remove quad kit
2. Build two trikes.

It's that easy!

DasUberKraut
07-03-2013, 12:05 AM
Quad kit looks like a bolt on. And it's already half disassembled.

I'm going to take the top end and swap with the existing top end on my 85 Auto-X.
I'll have proper fitting exhaust too.

The only part I didn't get was the two inner cases of the bottom half and anything attached to them.

So I had just picked this up before work. I literally walked in the door and punched in with one minute to spare or it would have been a two hour tardy.

Finally got home and dug through the box. The bottom is a bunch of random bolts, motor mounts and other random small parts.

What can be done about this?

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w33/Duggalo/IMG_20130703_020813_490_zpsd1617584.jpg
Right side engine cover with kicker and a couple other bits attached. Final drive cover. Also, still attached to the machine is the clutch cover or the stator cover?

All the bottom end parts are for sale or trade. I'm open to offers.

Buddy of mine said I should have my triples machined and cut these 81 XR250R shocks down and put them on my 85 Auto-X. He said I should be able to use the cherry Hondaline speedo I took off the XR also. They are beefier and have better springs I guess? Otherwise I gotta sell this stuff. It's taking up valuable space.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w33/Duggalo/IMG_20130428_144158_228_zpse7dbd1bf.jpg

So is my idea to put the 200x cylinder and head on the ATC200 motor feasible or will it not work? The cam shaft and exhaust as well. I'm currently cleaning and rebuilding the 200x carb. Hopefully it won't dump gas like the unknown carb in use right now. Is it possible to connect a key switch and neutral light to my setup? I have a spare dash from a 84 125m I'd like to use.

I was swapping wheels around yesterday and discovered I have 2" spacers on the 85 Auto-X. Score! Seems like the hubs are wobbly though.

Still would like to know if the XR forks are possible. Also if a key switch and neutral light are possible. Hoping a couple gurus find my thread!

Hi, i see this post is old but just felt the need to comment on it haha, manbearpig, the foot pedal is most likely a 185 or 200, the 200x foot pedal would never work as its WAY to short and would essentially be underneath the clutch cover making it useless. Also you probably have it fixed now but you said your exhaust was barely on there? Well i'll show you a picture of mine, works great! 173462 I had a 1/4 inch piece of aluminum and cut it out to what you see in the pic, like a triangle with a square at the end lol, works amazing! Mines 200M top end on a 185 bottom end.

Cody... This thread is only a month old. LOL. I like your grab bar. I have a hand crafted one myself. Not as cool as yours. Getting it duplicated this weekend.

As for the brake pedal. It's not cobbled by any means. It's built right into the foot peg. My best guess is that's it's aftermarket or from a XR or CR. I'll take some close ups tomorrow. I'm at work til 1 am tonight.

DasUberKraut
07-18-2013, 08:58 PM
As for my exhaust... It seems like the head pipe is bent inward some towards the center of the frame. Both silencers I have appear to be too big for the head pipe as well. I have the 200x head pipe. Not sure if it will fit the ATC200 top end or not. It's going to be a while before I swap for the 200x top end. I just hope I can seal it a little better so I don't get harassed on the state trails.

Put my Bear Claws with Douglas .190 rims on the X today. Does it look a little too wide with the spacers on it? Opinions please! It handles like a dream. Just looks wide to me. Notice how I lucked out and the tread patterns lined up almost balls on. That right there can make a guy smile. Not to mention how much more it smooths out the ride. I have the tires at atmospheric pressure for now. I may add a couple lbs though.

Thinking I may cut a fender reinforcing plate for the recessed area at the back like the 90's have. Maybe diamond plate or or just flat aluminum stock.
