So my two newest trikes are a '83 200x and a '84 YTM225DX.
On my 200x the headlights just simply wont work, got a new bulb, still no go. But, i figured ill just have to look for loose plugs, wires, etc. Shouldnt be too bad, But any pointers are appreciated.
But, the tri-moto is the problem here. You turn on the lights and it kills the engine. I have no electrical experience except putting green wire to green wire. So im just going to have to download some wiring diagrams, and just follow the wires. Could it be a ground touching? A wire crossed? Excuse my terms.

Hello
Here's a manual with wiring diagrams below. Try cleaning the terminals on the battery post and inside fuse holder, if that doesn't fix it then REMOVE battery and try another or jump the wires with another battery of the same voltage ie 6 or 12. Do not jump the old battery.

On the 225 it could be a bad stator..since there is a pulse coil to generate power for the ignition and a pulse coil to generate for the lights and charging..
If there is a cross between the two circuits then turning on the headlamps may be pulling the voltage off the ignition coil..killing your engine.
I'd start with the manual that Barnett has given a link to and a volt meter..check the stator and move up the harness. You've find a short to ground in there somewhere!!
Do the lights turn on when the switch is flipped..even briefly before the engine dies?

There is no bulb in the headlight and the tail light was all smashed up and bent so i took it off. The tail light wires were also all torn off and just hanging. But we will be getting a battery tomorrow and cleaning up the bike because it has been sitting in a barn for some years and just a coating of crud on it. We will have to look for a bulb and ill let you know. Could a missing tail light be the problem too? Not completing a circuit or something? im not good with electrical. Because on my bike the tail light is gone too and the headlight does not work.
This is my 200x, some loose wires by the headlight, what do they go to?

Those wires behind the 200x headlamp are power for the optional speedo..
On the 225DX I suppose it's possible that if there is a smashed bulb still in the socket it may be shorting the circuit..but I don't know for fact from experience..
