Tomorrow im going to look at this trike and hopefully adding it to the collection for my brothers first trike.
He says it has a new clutch and the weights need adjusted, its too tight, he just didnt know how to do it. So is this possibly a easy fix or maybe a larger problem? Maybe someone could give a link or explanation on how to do it.
Here is a picture of it, if you notice anything wrong let me know. From what i see i notice nothing really, but im a honda guy. Not use to these ones. Any common problems with these machines and what to look for?

At first everyone was against 3 wheelers in my family when i use to ride my fathers old trike, now im convincing them to all get one. My mom even said to look for one for my little sister! Working on expanding the collection. Even if they are not mine, i still get to ride them. :)

Is code for, 'I didn't fix the clutches properly!'. Weights don't need adjusting..be careful, this guy doesn't sound like a straight shooter!
So what is it doing? Slipping on take off from standing stop or in the top end of higher gears?
Looks half decent, how much?
You know what'll bring the colour back to that dirty plastic is a 3M scrub pad and soapy water..did it on my blue 200E. Finish will be dull, but cleans the dirt and oxidized plastic off nicely.
After you can buff to shine if you wanna put in the man hours..lots of threads with suggestions for plastic polishing!

Well i have never had to mess with a clutch before. So excuse my ignorance. But i asked if it slipped and he said its just tight, the weights need adjusted. I dont really know what "tight" qualifies as or means.
And the bike is only $300, so i thought it was a hell of a deal. If everything is true. But, what should i be looking for when i examine this clutch? Is it just a fix or does it need replaced? And how much would it run me? What would i need to do or replace if it does slip?
I plan on getting more information tomorrow before i go to see it, but i figured at that price it wouldnt really be a loss if it runs and drives well except that one problem.

There is one small adjustment on the case side..like your Hondas. I don't know what 'tight' means either..sounds like he either doesn't know or is hiding something.
But other than that nothing to setup..but since there are two clutches. One is centrifugal which engages/disengages like a chain saw clutch does with engine RPMs change.
Second is the manual clutch that is like a standard motorcycle clutch. Engaged by heavy springs and is disengaged as the rider moves the shifter to change gears.
So typically if the centrifugal is bad it slips from take off, if the manual is slipping it will happen under load in higher gears.
At $300 it's worth a look and ride..if it runs well and everything else checks out then grab it. Understand it may take a couple hundred more to make right.
But since $500-600 is still a decent deal for a 225DX, in my opinion it's worth it.

Hello
+1 on all Dougspcs info. Ill add, if has excessive lite gray smoke it will need a top end, around $200.00 with your labor. Up shift it under hard acceleration to see if it pops out of gear. If it does it most likely needs trans work but it might be caused by a bad clutch in this case depending upon what is wrong with it. See if it idles consistently at a LOW rpm for at least 1 minute. Listen for rear end whine or klunking. You could easily pay $500.00 for one that looks like that and it might still have problems so as Dougspcs says it sounds like a reasonable deal.

If you want to fix it before you test the trike, take an adjustable wrench and a short flat head screwdriver with you. Loosen the nut a few turns and then using the screwdriver turn the screw counter clockwise in until you feel slight tension. Then back it off 1/8 turn clockwise and snug the nut up (11ft#) taking care that the rod stays in place.
