hey guys i need opinions on this craigslist ad. if yall say it looks good im going to go pick it up tomorrow. guy said he would take $500 and its a 3 hour drive. what do yall think? also how do these compair to the 85-86 250r?

I can answer this one! I bought my first Tecate, an '85, just a couple weeks ago, and despite my bitching about the oil and antifreeze leaks, I was assured by many folks here that I got a good deal at $510. After some time to think about it, I would agree. If it runs, it's probably worth that much. I've never owned a 250R, so I can't compare there, but I would say that the Tecate is definitely not tame!

If it runs good, doesn't smoke, good clutch and shifts without popping out of gear it is a steal. You're not likely to find an 85-86 250r for even twice that price.

Is it the angle of the picture, or has that thing been sitting outside for a looong time, because of the (looks like) faded fenders?

The tecate is a great machine but hard to get parts for.. For that price if it runs good get it!

well $554 dollars later(500 for bike 50 for gas and a 4 dollar toll) and a 5 hour round trip drive on a work night i am now a member of the kawi club. this is my first non honda atv. to answer a few questions. the fenders are faded but have no cracks. all bearings seem to be tight. the frame engine wheels and suspension are all clean! it has almost new itp holeshots on the rear. shifted thrue all gears and i barely hit it in second and the front end flew up on me. so far the bad i see is the front brake doesnt work. it has a slight coolant leak. and the fenders are faded. i will get better pics later. the guys said it had been resleeved to standard bore. it has a new crank and new bearings and seals. cant wait to really check it out tomorrow after work

maybe not a killer deal. the guys didnt have any room to really open it up. so i got home today pulled it out and it has a terriable bog from right around 3/4 to wide open throttle. it also would occasional bog romping on it in a turn. so far by just a check over i see it does not have an air filter on it. do you guys think that would cause this?

ive got the carb off right now. it is a mikuni. the main jet looks like it says 260 on it. its hard to read. the needle is set on second notch from the bottom. does anyone know what is sopposed to be in there?

ok got the carb back together after cleaning it real good and shes running great! do i have any options on rear fenders?

My manual says, 230 main jet, needle 4th groove from top, 45 pilot jet.

Fenders? You could start a group buy for Maiers - "only" need 10 people. They come up on eBay for here once in a while but not cheap.

In my opinion they look pretty funny with the 86/87 fenders on the earlier trikes.

yeah that is true. it be nice if some one with both years could sit them on it to get any idea of the head ach to make them fit and how it would look. i have seen the 1st gen 250rs with 3rd gen rear plastics and it looked good
