Does anyone know the rear axle nut size on a 85 Honda 250sx?

I can't remember exactly which one, but a standard socket fits perfectly... might be 1 1/16"

I'm thinking 20 mm. It's been awhile since I had a parts machine tear down.

Hello

What EXACTLY do you want to do?

You're question is vague to me. If you are talking about the nut listed in the link below, you do not need to remove that to remove housing assy from axle housing. You also do not remove it to split the differential cases.

just take the left side tube off and then the right side hub and brakes. the axle shaft will slide out the right side. dont lose those collars on the axle shaft.
then there is 8 bolts holding the final drive diff unit in. if you mean the nut on the pinion snout of the differential it can stay in. separate the two case halves and the ring gear will come out.

looks like this inside.

I split the case apart already but the inside is so nasty inside that the bearings are rusted on. I have been using a rubber mallet to try and knock them loose but no luck so far.

Spray a few times a day with kroil, pb blaster is supposedly a distant second, they may move the second or third day.

Your pinion will also have to come out. This is done very ,very carefully,or with the right special tools.FlyingW on here will probably rebuild her better than new if you throw in the towel. Soaking won't hurt, but heat and beat are where you're at now with the ring gear.
