Aussie Trike Speedway Pics and Vids

Well what an incredibly successful day! (I'm sure MUZZ_ATC (Jarrod)has a different opinion though )

The drive up was nice, 270kms, exactly half a tank of fuel and approx 3.5 hrs later we arrived.

I unloaded the trike, got set up, did my licence and rego etc and took a walk around the track. The track was perfect. You couldn't ask for a better track or surface to run a trike on.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly too. The guy that was running the track, Paul Slade (Sladey) was a bloody top bloke. What a deadset legend!

With the help of Sladey all our trikes passed through scrutineering and we aced the licence test!

My trike didn't miss a beat all day and with the information that Greenhuman posted in regards to setting your trike up and how to ride a speedway track that I followed it was fast too and handled incredibly well. So well in fact that I may not change it back. Another trike that was running sweet too was Marts custom ATC 125R. Wow, that thing was fast!


Sladey said were all welcome back for another practice day and that we should get in touch with Motorcycling Australia to get ourselves sorted so we can officially race.

The drive home was a bit ordinary as there was no speedway track at the destination but finding bed was a welcome relief.

The still camera with pics seems to be giving us a little grief but I'll post pics as soon as I get a BFH to fix it.

Until then I'll post vids as they upload to YouTube.

Thanx to everyone who helped make it a sideways success. thanx too to all the girlfriends etc who grinned and bared it.

Very cool brother. For some reason when I saw this thread, I was ready to see your SWEET airfooler on the track and then I thought how in the hell would they let him flat track that bike with the metal "death" grips...LOL.

So I assume you are on the 3rd gen R ripping it up? Very cool indeed sir!!!

Xlnt video, not bouncing around nice and clear, fun to watch. Looks like they kept the track watered, nice.

What do you think about you’re gearing, areb you happy with it? Seemed pretty close, maybe 1 less tooth on the rear?

Fun to watch you pass those guys, 2 on the OUTSIDE, 1 on the inside! Did you see the rear wheel lift on that guys bike you passed on the inside? This is what I was warning you about before, it can happen quickly? We prefer you don’t do this, that’s why all the suggestions before.

Seemed like your tires were spinning/sliding just enough to have fun but not hook and high side or send you into the wall, lol.

What air pressure did you run?

Any suspension complaints, front too soft rear too stiff?

Looks like your shopping cart wheel holder help up ok, lol.

What do you think about lowering your forks maybe 15-25mm next time? I think you might like it. I wouldn’t suggest any more though. It will slide a little more and a little easier.

You should do good in a race there.

Watching the last video you’re gearing seems a little different than watching thru the helmet cam, lol. Seems just right.

Your bike sounds crisp. The guy on the white 2 stroke in the earlier video has a good long track flat track motor but I wouldn’t want to ride it in the dunes etc, too pipey. Listen to him rev it when he enters the turn for no reason, must think he’s Marty Hart, lol.

Rear suspension doesn’t look to soft.

You did a good job setting it up for the first time.

I’ll tell you a secret, if you extend your wheel on the left you will lose a little traction so maybe it’s better you didn’t have more spacers, lol.

You might raise your rpm range by a hundred fifty or more if you put a 40mm extension on your stinger if you want to for this track.

I ended up lowering my front suspension an inch or so prior to the first race. It seemed good, nicely responsive. The gearing seemed pretty close as at the top of the straight I was clicking in to 6th and then back to 5 for the corner. The right wheel was spaced 4 inches wider than the left. The tyre pressure was measured by my foot as "pretty darn firm". Lol
The 125 is a custom 84? 200X with a 2001 cr 125 engine with no rear suspension, just a metal strut. It was fast. It's got a custom pull start adapted to it aswell. Mart is the owner/builder, he's the guy with the laydown 250r engine in an atc70.

Good you can probably see what I meant now when I said if they are soft they are more likely to catch or roll over etc and throw you off like what almost happened to that 1 guy in front of you on your outside.

looks like a blast! Always wanted to try that kind of racing out. Glad to hear it went off without any serious issues too!
