After about a year and a half of rebuilding my 84 200x i'm just about complete, all i have left to do is brake pads, exhaust, seat, and front tire. Had her running tonight for a bit and she feels and sounds real good. Well sorta sounds good, which is my concern. Now i know i had previously read on here someone saying something like "200x's heads are just noisy, they sound like sewing machines, and thats normal for them". And thats what i'm wondering because my trike sounds kinda loud from the head. something like " chicka chicka chicka". I replaced piston, rings, valves, cam chain, and a few other engine parts. So i know everythings in good shape and within tolerances. Just wondering if anyone more familiar with these engines could give me an idea if this is a normal sounding head for this or maybe what else it could be. I am gonna check the gaps for the lifters to valves again tomorrow and make sure their right but i did that when i first rebuilt the engine. Thanks for any info. While its running during its break in, be sure to adjust the cam chain tensioner and yes, check your valve lash again. See if doing those two things makes it less noisy. Its the nature of the 200x to have a "sewing machine" type of noise to them.

My 200x sounded like a sewing machine straight out of satans house with that coffman muffler and the head noise. Haha no it's the nature of 200 to sound that way like stated before by yaegerb! Guy knows his 200x very well!
