View Full Version : Compression: From 9.6 to 10.25: noticeable difference?

I know many of you have gone from stock compression on your 200X's to the Wiseco piston setup. My question: is it worth it? I'm sure I don't have stock compression on an untouched '83 anymore, but the difference in rebuilding stock to upping to the Wiseco is the difference I'm referring/asking about.
TIA,

So I guess there's no difference worth mentioning???

With a fresh bore job, and a new wiseco 10-1/4 to 1 piston there will be QUITE a noticeable increase in power over a well used engine!!!

Plus adding things like a pipe, good air filter, and rejetting will make more of a difference.

As soon as i get my motor together I will let you know. I upped the compression for 9.6 to 1 to 10.25 to 1. Also , bored it 1mm over so now it is a 201cc instaed of 192cc. Also ported and polished the head as well as adding a 26mm carb instead of the stock 24mm. Also a new Webcam. Both me and the machine shop that did the work are excited to see the final results. Should be fun....

I had 2- 200X's, one was all stock, the other had a ported head, high lift cam, and what I think was a higher comp piston. Both engines were about equally worn out, but the one with the work done to it was noticeably more powerful than the stocker. That one also had a pipe and a K&N clamp-on. Smoking and knocking, it would still pull wheelies at will.

I heard of port polish, cam and rejetting but how about
something I heard the harley mechanics talkin about.
They called one of the moters they were working on a stroker.
What does this mean ?
One of them also told me your carb can be wanting to take
more gas than your petcock will let flow through and recommended
a petcock with better flow.
Wonder if this is really true ?

Do I have to send any of my OEM parts to webcam ?
I was hoping I could buy a high performance cam
which will bolt on without having to swap any of my parts out.
Any other options besides webcam ?

You dont have to send your stock parts to webcam but if you dont they charge you $60 for the core charge. If you want to go with a stroker kit check out www.powroll.com the have on but you have to send them your stock crank and they do all the wrok and send it back to you. That is pretty expensive though. Another place to look for cams is www.whitebrothers.com. I have never heard of the problem with the petcock before I guess it could turn into an issue I am not sure. Good luck let me know if you have any other questions...
