Has anyone ever done this swap?

Last year I bought a 1986 250r for my hubby, that had a calfab swingarm, steering stabilizer, durablue axle, ect... but it is, well ugly, needs plastics, tires, gonna need a top end soon-- you get the idea. He's been kicking around the idea of selling it and buying a 350x. I have someone that is willing to buy it for the 1500 he was asking, but i'm concerned that he'll be disapointed, since we don't know anybody that has a 350x to try out first... I guess my fear is that he'll sell it, and be unable to replace the 250r with all the mods for the money he'll get. We already have 2 rebuilt 200x, so its not like we don't have good running 4 strokes to ride.

so now to the point. I have an opportunity to buy a 350x motor with wiring harness, totally complete. And we rather liked the idea of being able to keep all the travel, light weight, and mods of the R and be 4 stroke.

so, how does the 350x compare to the 250R in performance,

And how difficult would the swap be? We live at a shop, so tools and space aren't an issue.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks

The liquid r has a small engine area. I think it would take alot of fabrication to fit a 350x motor in it.Im a 250r guy so the 250 2 stroke has alot more mid and topend than the 350x.Iv ridden a few 350xs and they are realy nice machines.Good suspensions aswell.

350x in a 250r is not gonna happen. you would be better off with a crf450r motor in it, its smaller but taller. the motor of a 350x is a pig compaired to a 250r. sell the 250r for 1500, you will have more into that to get a custom build 250r all set up right with a 350x motor. buy a 350x and build it up.

I agree with oldskool here...also most of the difference in weight between the X and the R is the motor, so putting and X motor in your R frame would make it just as heavy as an X anyway...

Yep, stick with one or the other; Or both :D

We all can't afford the pleasure of having both but they both are powerful and well handling. The 350X is heavy with less suspension but it has allot of torque.

The 250R can be a great woods machine with some work but it is truly a racing WOT type of machine.
