All right fellas I have started a new build I have never done before on a Atc70 and have searched high an low for a question that's never really been answered to the best of my knowledge! I'm going with the lifan 110 electric start an understand you would Mount the battery In the frame on top of skid plate removing the cross brace in the center, my question is how does this affect the integrity of the frame? Would love to see some pics of your completed battery setups if possible.. Complete build from start to finish coming soon..:beer

Hello
I don't have your answer unfortunately but I am curious to see what others say about this. I can tell you for sure it is never a good idea to reduce the structural integrity if any frame by removing structural parts etc. This being said I'm guessing you are not going to flog it so I imagine just tooling around it would be ok but not recommended.
Do you have a larger photo of your wife, girlfriend, sister, "mom"? Just wanted to check her suit for the proper number of stars and stripes etc. Doesn't look like she has enough room on there for all 51, lol.

Atc 70.com has a battery box that mounts off your WHEELIE bar under the fender.

Hello Badass350x
No problem, guess my post wasn't so useless after all. I just wanted to make sure she was "politically correct" with her attire. Look up JasonB avatar for fun. He had a larger one but he figured they wouldn't let him post it. Between you and him I think you two have "both" sides of the issue covered, lol, lol, lol.

Check out the Antigravity Battery. I used the 8 cell for my 150 E-start. Very small and light. You could get away with the 4 cell. Mine weight 1 1/2 lbs. 240 cold cranking amps.

This is Exactly what Im looking for.. Few Questions for ya , how are you keeping the battery stable inside that area? I know its in a battery box did you bolt that to the side of the frame? I suppose that battery will squeeze in an out of the back by the brake arm? is your wiring long enough to pull out with the battery to be able to bolt and unbolt the pos/neg leads etc?? Looks Awesome by the way!!

Thanks for your Input an the link.. Really dont want to go this route for strength reasons, If anything I would probably mount it on the left rear side but wanted a cleaner look also..

the battery is being kept stable inside the box by the upper base of the cdi, and the battery box is being mounted with a bolt from the front side on the cross brace in the center. the battery isnt being squeezed by the in an out of the back by the brake arm. its looks close but it doesnt touch. you have acces from behind for the + and the negative of the battery, but if you like to take out the battery you must put down the engine.
everything there is very tight but its working! if you can wait till the weekend i will finish and post fotos of all the wirring. there will be a horn, turn lights lighting and brake light, spedometer and tachomerer.

i used a small battery, ytx4bs maybe, i did not have to mod my frame at all. i built a small battery box that fit right on top of my skid plate. it all slides up into the frame nicely. i do have to remove it to adjust the chain but its works fairly slick. i dont have any pics but next time i have it out i will try to get some.

Hey guys.
I mounted the battery in through the top of the frame. I cut the round tube and welded up a battery box and welded into the hole I cut. I used a battery from a lt80. I jumped and abusd this machine to see if it would hold up befor I sold it. I don't have pics of the battery box. The battery mounted in front of the rear seat mount. also i welded the whole length of the round tube along the sides. I do like the battey in the frame on the skid plate. I just wanted something different.
Honda atc70.com has battery boxes fore sale.
The last atc70 I built I purchased a lithium ion battery it was very small it was about the size of a couple of double a battery's in a black pouch with two wires sticking out on the bag
I wish I took pics of the battery, very cool

I have my oil cooler located in the space behind the motor above the skid plate.

167629For your question about cutting the frames. Yes but only if it is supported in another way. The first atc I built I broke the stock frame right where the tube enters the box part of the frame. This is a pic of my newest atc70 frame, just stretched a 1 1/2 inches reinforcing the weak parts of the frame.
The battery box was in between the seat mount and the rear tank mount.

If you cut anything out of these frames they have to be resuported some where else. As a whole they are strong anytime something is cut they will start to fall apart

Pic of the latest frame stretch. Hammering in the spacer / support.

The spacer is a 7" long in total. One side was cut down 1/8" for 3.5"and the other side was cut down 1/8" for 2". The spacer was then hammered into place. The ends where rosette welded and the gaps where tig welded first then mig welded to cap.

I did this one, awhile back on Whtcamaros 70. we cut the frame and so far no issues. The new Dry Cell Balllistic batteries http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/43/53/160/730/-/33653/Ballistic-EVO2-Battery are awsome, light and smaller, so the next one I may try something else. I have the 4 cell in my 110 powered CT70 with plenty of cranking power.

Built a nice side mount box for now, will go with one of those smaller batteries once this one is gone.. looks really nice hidden away under the fenders.. on to putting the motor in wiring, foot brake, then complete tear down for paint an powder!!
