after a Nice talk with Harry Klemm today it seems that http://www.klemmvintage.com/ has had about 10 people call in the last 6 months about work.. after posting this picture on FB ... This will not be a pre order or order now! No Deposits... I will be supplying Harry with everything he needs to make a 341cc Z motor using all stock stuff.. so he can make the sleeve and new piston... using a stock head. seems there was another fellow gonna send his motor for this a month and a half ago.. with I would have known .. would have been on the ball a month ago .

he does 250 cylinder porting and head work .. but you are NOW looking at the first all new 341cc. since the 80's :naughty:

Dirt Wheels January 1986:
Article on a 85 tri-z with a big bore (350cc) conversion. Used a 38 flat side Mikuni smooth-bore to a 40. Had a Trinity 6 inch extended swingarm. Center R/L cases had to be machine to take the new cylinder.

I'm about to GIT SOME! if you search klemm big bore you will find ... the beginning of the Sprock big bore .. and alot of HR ..;)

who has the full article scan?

complete kit without pipe will be around $1000 OF BAD ASS POWER!

once this kit is done it will be available . through. Klemm Vintage, very excited that everything will be readily available . :Bounce WAY MORE TO COME!

That's AWESOME Bryan!

I heard something about this from the brother in law today (Beadle350x)... Seems to me an outfit like Klemm wouldn't bother with such an undertaking if they didn't think the market was there.... It's about time you Yammi guys are getting some aftermarket support again! :)

Is this going to replace the 490 by any chance?? Bet it's going to be a rip-snorter! :beer

Bryan Raffa
04-15-2013, 08:36 PM
somebody scan the full article . please LOL NO it will not replace the 490.. it probable will be my flat track bike/ice racer but thats a different story.

this is about the the the Motor Kit ,, being developed and produced... and readily available. :naughty:

What has to be done to the bottom end? Will it take the increase of more cc?

Bryan Raffa
04-15-2013, 09:30 PM
it has already been proven... in the 80's machine work to both cases to accept the sleeve and thats as far as I will get into it .. Harry has all the spec's from the 80's for the 341 and the 250 National .. but is not just gonna let it out when you rattle his phone ...LOL your gonna have to wait till he develops it again .

What are the chances he might shape a dome for the coolheads? I know it's not his stuff and too soon to ask, the kit is enough to get through at the moment...Would be nice and I have a loose one never been mounted if needed. Good job Raffa and others, if any to get Harry on-board with this...Anyone want a fullon Sprock 310 never kicked over ready to drop in:lol:

I can help you with that bottom end, but that's only going to get you part of the way. Kidneys are going for a fair price these days and should take you the rest of the way.

Harry does not have the kits ready ,,, Mine will be the first Since 86 he has to design a new sleeve and have them made,, along with the piston's..the easy part is the machine work .. once mine is done you will be able to purchase them through Klemm Vintage ... there are ready to do national 250s now... he said hold off on the 490 rod and spacer plate for now:naughty:.. he has alot of work laying it out.

No. He never got back to me about the pipe. I just want a nice secional pipe.

Although my Z runs great as a 250 I'd seriously consider bumping it up to 341. Two issues though: 1) to get the most out of the engine I think he should develop a pipe too as the aftermarket selection for Zs is limited 2) I'm wondering about the possibility of overheating. The stock Z is known for overheating issues. If you increase the displacement of the stock cylinder (with the same volume water jacket) and use the stock radiators, there may be an overheating problem. In any event, I'm still jazzed to hear this news.

Regarding LRD making pipes for the Z, I doubt it. Arlan would do a one-off but I seriously doubt he would do another production pipe. He recently ran out of stamps for the ATC 250R pipe and the last I talked to him it sounded like he wasn't going to make any more. Considering he does a lot of business with the R motor, I doubt he would do it for the Z.

Rigaman
09-14-2013, 06:16 PM
Raffa will be testing it out. I'm sure if there are any issues they will be addressed. Or the project would be scrapped if it can't be fixed. Klemm did big bores for the z before. I think they ran good.

I will start a proper build thread on my bike as soon as I get my motor back form the King of Bling himself. I have been in discussion with Harry Klemm since getting wind of this project and we have finally moved forward. Raffa is still building his bike/motor now  but my poor Z was tired of waiting for the proper drive train. I am very excited to get this project finished up and start riding my dream bike. So let it be known that the Tri Z 350 is soon to be a reality :beer

Soory to bring up an old thread from a banned member, but figured this post fit right in here. Again I will start my own thread shortly as I finally am far enough long to feel comfortable sharing my baby :p

It will be just a matter of time! I originally was the one that put the word out to Brian Two years ago at the invasion, talked to harry many times about building this motor which he agreed on an for me to send him one of my motors, at the time I had way to many fires burning at once and dropped the ball, that's when brian stepped up and followed through with the second gen big bore Z!!!!

I can assure you now that he has his new specs from building brians motor they will be available on request..

Thanks for those pics of the motor. I find it interesting that a second port wasn't created. I wonder why Klemm didn't go that route? Everything I have read about adding that second port to the Z has been a good upgrade for power.

3 Wheel Drive

I've seen a factory Yamaha tri z cylinder on eBay with the single boost port enlarged way bigger than that, it was a single port too. From what I've read about Spocks 330 kits that second boost port will crack the jug eventually due to the non balanced engine/ notorious vibration.

With all the ass that a 350 will kick, that's prolly a good idea to leave it alone. I've seen some boost ports even decreased in size with small tubes epoxied in the ports.

.org has been down for days. Raffa actually started his own site dedicated to Trike Racing. You can get at him over there easily. Yes the kits are being offered but still waiting for a compression reading before Harry markets to the public. I have been bugging Harry since last June to get this going and when we talked in Nov he said send it down. I am going to assemble the motor ASAP and get the readings for Harry so we can be sure the head is cut correctly. I have two other heads down there waiting in case
we need to make a change.

Dean I would like to thank you for getting the ball rolling with this. I know most the credit goes to Bryan for ponying up last year, but this thing should be simply amazing. Your Z is a beautiful machine and deserves one of these beasts in the near future. I am hoping to have this bike finished up by the fall and make it to next years invasion to show it off.

I left all the power mod descisons to Harry. Even kept the porting to a mild roar. I think 3wheeldrive is correct in that it makes the cylinder prone to cracking. I am sure that 80mm bore and 40mm carb will be a great upgrade for power :Bounce
