How do you pick racing numbers?Might be hitting a few of the TT races this summer.

If you are talking about hitting some of the races in the Ohio/New York/PA area, a pretty current list of used numbers from some of the frequent racers, are already posted here and is updated pretty regularly at the OTC racing event site.
As not all of these racers are at every event, there is a good probability that your numbers won't match someone else, but if so, typically a black X will be added with electrical tape to one persons number if it matches another. While there is no specific rule of who wears the X, typically, sign-up order, experience, or home field advantage, or highest qualifier/finisher could possibly determine the badge..just for fun of course.

Edit/added... It would be a good idea to actually present this list at some of the smaller broken/scattered little nitch racing sites and facebook pages. I know there has been quite a few small spawnings of local race forums and web pages in the regular areas that currently hold 3 wheeler races. A lot of newcomers may want this info.

Welcome..It is more than likely you would see most of the same numbers at Trikefest as well. I know Billy and I both run number 22, but I dont recall us ever being in the same class/event or having to run the X or change the number.

Hello Jays375

Xlnt info from Mosh, it's been this way pretty much since the beginning of time except for pro AMA races. As long as you have a roll of electrical tape like Mosh suggested, you have all the numbers you will need till you run out of tape, lol. I had to use an X one time and because I liked my number so much I left the X on for all the local Pro club [AMC CMC CRC] races that year. I was the only Pro I remember that had an X, lol.

Have fun be careful, lot's of other crazies out there.

Hello jats375

I don't see a #1 on Mosh's list, looks like it's available, might scare the competition enough to get an edge!

Barnett. I agree in many cases racing is only as safe and friendly as the competition allows it to be. At this time, I would like to bring to your attention if you were not aware, that 3 wheeler racing has had a large successful resurgence recently starting in the Ohio, and branching to surrounding states like NY, PA, KY, Kansas and recently appears as if CA is getting some trike racing going as well.
99.9% of the participants ride on the ragged edge, but do it very safely and responsibly..If you thought 3 wheeler racing was dead, or no longer popular since the 80's here are some videos for you to enjoy of the last 6 years or so. And there are many many more videos out there from other riders.

Hello Mosh

Yeah I've been doing other things so haven't followed it for many years, but since coming on this great site have realized exactly what you are referring to. I'm really happy to see a resurgence in any type of otherwise dwindling racing, even if it's riding lawnmowers. I actually enjoy watching that when it's on, lol. As long as it's got wheels I like it.

I don't know if you remenber or have heard of this but kids used to put plying cards in their spokes with wooden clothespins, like me. Well just last week I saw a muffler looking thing [megaphone] that clipped to the bikes rear axle and had various types of playing cards attached that you could interchange to make different sounds. I laughed my backside off, I thought it was a great idea and only $19.95.

I appreciate the video link and will definitely watch it.

Regards

Only interested in the TT races really. What stinks is the two closest tracks in the NEEDT series isn't allowing trikes. Both tracks are under 2 hours.Plus both races are before Ashtabula.I have never raced period.Dropped a pile of $ into a trike and can't race local.

I am 53 now and I was born June 11th 1959. My number has always been 11, except when I raced Pro Three Wheelers than I never got 11 as my pro number. Ran 321, 211 and 21 as a pro. My AHRMA # is 11G. I suppose if Brian was at the same race I could run 11x (lol). But I may be older than him and win by default :)

I only have 117 because I had to cut mine out of plastic sheets by hand. They were the easiest to get proportionate :) I would like to race mine, but nothing local. Ultimately, I just love the look of the old school racers. My X isn't a slouch either so it should be able to keep up in the correct class :)

Back in the 80s when I raced my liquid r I ran #73 it was given to me by the local track I raced at for the first time.weedsport NY. When I started racing my 81 250r I chose # 81 And I started racing again this year with the 81 250r so I again am running #81. In the 90s I raced crosscountry and ran # 70 It was appointed to me. The circut had a system that they used to give out # .#1-99 was for pros and vet class.I ran vet class.#100-199 was for two stroke A-Class and so on .In 2000 I started atv drag racing and you could use a day # for 5 bucks .I found out the pinnys cost $5 to buy I bought one and the # 241.167479

#88 here... it was my pager code growing up!!! we had a hole pager system... we always labeled places w/ a # so a code 88 420 346 930 meant: I'll be at 346 (my friend convenience store) to smoke at 930... ahhh... pagers & payphones....the good 'ol days...

I might as well bump this in the process of adding myself.
I have not decided between #4 (fav number) and #212 (cc's in my 200x:twisted:)
I would go 212 but strangely my neighbor also has 212 on his yz250f dirt bike.
I'll probably end up as #4, as Rheese (rg97)

By the way, wouldn't this thread do much better as a sticky? Like this if you agree...
Try and get Billy's attention :D
