I just finished my auto-x and after riding with my buddy and his 440ex, I'm already wanting more power. It looks pretty clean to me and I'm seriously considering looking at it. My main concerns are, i know nothing about 2 strokes, maintence, etc. anything specific to look for on these 1st gen R's?
Do you guys think its worth it? Banshee killer? I've read there's more mods for the liquid R's but everyone around here wants a damn Scrooge Mcduck fortune for them!
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

That looks pretty good, I don't think it will be any banshee killer but probably a lot faster than a auto x, personally I think 700 a little high I would say 500-600 I heard they are great machines, if I were you I would definitely buy it because I really like the look of those

thats been up for awhile. i'd say show up with 5 new hundred dollar bills and take that thing home for sure. i'm also not a 2 stroke guy, so, just this poor mans opinion.

Go check it out that trike has a few mods done already, aluminum rims, 2nd gen front end, silencer, decent plastics and seat. They are real capable in the woods when in low gear a great trike that you could have a blast on. I wish the ad had some better pictures

looks like a 2nd gen engine too but 1st and 2nd gen are pretty much the same
with the right mods done it could be a banshee killer 300R head (not impossible to find) bored out and a better then stock pipe
700 is a kind of a so so price but it depends on how available they are in your area
if you do get go with the 85/86 250R front fender it gives it a much better look

Thanks for the input guys. I'm just waiting for a email back. Kinda curious if there's any typical marchanical issues to look out for?

honestly I would pass for anything over 400 or 500$ on that. If you want something with more get up and go than a 2 stroke is a great choice, plus they are a little lighter to throw around in the woods. Do you have 700 to spend, or more? if you have closer to 1000$ I would personally hold out for a water cooled 250r, they have alot less issues and in my opinion are a little more user friendly. just my opinion though, the air fooler population around here will argue that but I have had a fooler before and compared to the 86 is night and day for power and dependability.

Just talked to the guy, gonna look at it on Saturday. I'd love to have a liquid R but everyone around here is 2k plus. He said it comes with spare studded rear tires and I'm guessing the original front forks.

So I went and bought it! He took 650, I thought it was pretty fair considering it included the original front forks which are in awesome shape and spare studded rear tires, from what I can tell it has a 2nd gen motor, because of the way the shifter is hacked together. I think also it's a 2nd gen forks because it stands taller than my 200x and has a gold hub. The PO told me he was running straight gas and I almost fainted because I always thought you need to premix.
Here's some pics...

Thank god he almost never drove it. He didn't know much about it and I think he was kind of scared of it.

That's good he rarely drove it, also that's how I got my 225dx for cheap, the guy got really scared of it after he bailed off of it and did something bad to his spine and he just wanted it gone, but anyway post up some more pics of it. Always like to see R's

Nice man, I'd personally put the original front end on it. I really like those 1st gen Rs. $650 sounds like a steal... They are all about $1000 or so around here. And liquid cools are $2000

They go for about the same around here. The 1st gen forks that came with it look awesome! All the typical crap that happens around here is nonexistent on the trike. All the caps on the forks look brand new, none of the bolts are stripped and almost everything is there. The wires need to be re-routed and the grab bar is homemade and welded on but very sturdy. Gotta get some 2 stroke oil and clean the gas tank( little rusty) and clean the carb and get a smaller in line fuel filter.
