Slowly been working on my 86 sx. Been cleaning the carb inside and out. I dont think i need a carb kit as all rubber parts are flexible and not cracked. Figgured id post a few pics of my progress, and ask about a part im not sure about. It looks like a rubber mushroom, and its in the end of a metal tube in the inside of the main carb body. Was wondering what it is, if it even belongs, and if i should leave it,166430 toss it, or replace. No carb kit on ebay has it. Its still flexible, but looks like it was chewed on by someone... 166431
And some pics of how well its cleaning up. A before and after166432

Hope to have it finished and be riding it by the end of the month

Its supposed to be a plug of some sort. What's under it? Just cleaned mine the other day, I think I had a brass plug there?

No, that part of the jet stack is not drilled. The plug is a block off plug for that tube. Make sure its in. These are unique to the 86 QA07 and QA08A ES/SX carbs. Be sure you adjust the slide/butterfly linkage on the side.

Alright thanks. The rubber piece is a little rough but intact so i will re use it. Random question how does the choke work on this carb? I dont see a choke plate or anything move when i pull the cable. Just different from any carb ive seen.

The choke is a tipped plunger. The brass barrel has a point and when you move the choke lever to choke, it actuall pulls the barrel up in the hole pulling the tip out of its hole unblocking part of the pilot circuit allowing more fuel.

Hello
Don't forget to remove the mix screw on the bottom in photo. There should be a washer spring and oring in there. Spray carb cleaner in all jets, make sure it comes out somewhere else like bore of carb.
Hope this info helps.

Very good point Barnett. That is one assembly often assembled incorrectly. That is the pilot screw. The order is.....Pilot screw, spring, flat washer, oring. Its common for guys to assemble screw, spring, oring, flat washer. Assembling this way doesn't allow the pilot circuit to work correctly. The way to remember is, you never put an oring next to a spring because the spring end will tear up the oring so a washer goes in between. Put a dab of Scooby lube on the oring before you screw it in.

So i finished the carb, put it on and my trike runs perfect now. Only thing is it was dribbling gas, which slowed to a drip per minute or so. Im going to order a rebuilt kit because i think one of the two gaskets is on its way out. With the fact it runs like a brand new trike, is it even possible i hooked the hoses up wrong? I tried my best to follow a crappy manual i downloaded but im not sure i got it all right.

Hello
It will leak from the idle mix screw that I and flyingw referred to if the o ring is either old or missing but this will just be a few drops providing you float level is not too high. It has been stated by 1 member that this o ring did not come in the Moose carburetor kit. It is special fuel resistant material ans is not available at the hardware store. Must go to an specialty store for it.

I ordered a shindy carb kit, which appeared to have that o ring. It was the most expensive kit on ebay at 25 bucks.and yeah the o ring fell to pieces so i put rtv on the screw threads. Figgured ited last longer than 10 minutes though. Thanks for the advice so far, ive just gotta put new seals on the carb, and change the fluids and ill be done with it. Soon as my carb kit and royal purple get here in the mail ill start riding it

Hello
Thanks for the update, o ring in kit, xlnt. The best thing is that it runs good that's most often the biggest problem.
