looking for a front tire for honda atc 125.

the tire on my 110 is huge compared to the stock 125's AND they are both the same size (they both read the same #'s on the sidewall)

i like the oversized one , i think its a Carlisle, but definitely an older one. trailpro

or can i go up a size and get away with it ??

All I know is that if I put 5 tires next to each other
all with the SAME size numbers, they all look different.

I'll check the size and mfg name on a 125 here in a bit and post the name and size.

if you go to
mudthrowers.com, they have a tire and wheel chart.
but again, I am very skeptical about tire sizes.

Here is a little food for thought. If I were going to buy tires for a non suspension bike I would use the ones like on the right, they are more balloon like and create a softer ride. You can run 2-3 lbs in a Trail Pro or any other tire with a stiff sidewall and still get an as pounding ride.

Heck you don't need any air in the tp's and still get pounded on riding them hard tail.

True, very true...

That's why I took off an almost new pair of TP's off the rear of my 200x and went the extra mile and bought new ITP wheels and Holeshot tires......

Completely agree. In addition, the small knobby tires steer MUCH better than a similar tire with the large knobs. Lighter and less effort to turn.

I have a 22 x 12 x 8 Carlisle knobby on the front of one of my 125m's. I'll see what it's called tomorrow. The other 125m has the original Cheng Shin 22 x 11 x 8 on the front and it steers much better. The only benefit I see of th wider tire is that it floats a little better on top of snow when the Bear Claws are burying themselves.

thats what i'm talkn bout..wondering what brand or style are 'commonly' known to be bigger..

i just like the look of the big fat front tire on the atc's..kinda like the early '70's look..

Cant remember what this tire is, will be where my bikes are tomorrow and can update this thread. But it is FAT compared to most knobbies. 166250166251

One other thing that I've noticed over years of riding these things. Tires that have a square grid pattern like on the front of the 125 shown above, tend to push more in a turn than do tires where the tread pattern is laid out in a radial grid, like on the rear of that 125. The radial grid tires are getting VERY hard to find as most manufactures are no longer producing them. I have a set on the rear of my original 185S (original from Honda) and I'll be keeping them nice and dry in a dark corner. Going to mount the front tire from the 185 on the front of the 200. I know it is a smaller size BUT... the Carlisle POS that is in perfect shape on the front of the 200, is WORTHLESS as a front tire. Just my observation and memory of riding these things when they were new. You'de almost think Honda knew something, back in the day...

Carlisle still sells that tire, I have one sitting in my garage. On their website is is just listed as "knobby"
