I know someone that bought one and it crapped the bed within 6 months. That's my only experience with them.

I've bought a few of them. No issues at all. The oldest one is about three years old and still works fine.

I agree that they are an inexpensive alternate and get the job done, however I doubt there will ever be any Chinese repro parts still working in another 25 years.
Take a look at the Chinese quads out there, when they are 4-5 years old you can't give them away.
We live in a disposable world now!

Get yourself a rebuild kit, it's usually just the brushes are worn down.
I installed brushes on my '85SX back in 2006 & i've had zero issues

I looked on ebay and they offered a rebuild kit for my 85 SX. then I went to a local alternator and starter rebuild shop a mile from where I work and for $10 got the same one offered on ebay for $40+.
He ordered it and it arrived the next day for me - I changed the brushes and it is like new. I agree with other posts to rebuild the original one if at all possible they give you a new bearing, o-rings - all you need to do it right
