Hi there guys. Haven't been here a lot lately, but that does not mean I've been out of it. Last night while at work I saw an 87 TECATE for sale for $800 on facebook that a friend had posted. I called him immediately after work (11PM). After a short talk I told him I would get home, get some $$$ and would drive to get the TECATE, an hours drive away. Got there, pushed started the bike (it has no kicker) and proceded to test it. This thing is mechanically sound and has lots of power and shifts great, clutch is great too. Very rough on the plastic department. Everything works, brakes are great and get this... It has a thumb throttle. It needs a front and rear fender and airbox lid and carb to airbox boot. It has a stock pipe with a God knows what bike silencer. After a few minutes I loaded the bike for $500. Heres a pic. Will load some more later. Let me know watcha think...

Very nice find. Something you can ride but still doesn't look half bad.

Kawasaki still had the fenders for sale a while back. However, I do recall people buying them up in bulk. Nice score!

Great score!

Check with Fabio. As I recall, he had a fair bit of '86-'87 Tecate stuff he was looking to get rid of a while back. Pretty sure he had a bunch of plastics.

Thanks Tatool, please, let me know what you have. It does need a few things, but it runs great.
Here's a few things it's needing

- Kick starter
- Front and rear fenders
- Carb to airbox boot

If you or anybody else have 86-87 TECATE parts, let me know. I'd love to put a complete exhaust on this trike, but an aftermarket silencer will do for now, let me know whats good and available. I know Klemm pipes are good but are also rare and expensive. Would not like to put a DG system.
Thanks,

Hello

Glad to hear it. I don't know if I can be much more help than any others at this point other than giving you some behind the scenes insight if you have questions but of course this won't help your bike get fixed, lol.

Thanks

You got me thinking. I'm starting to think it's an 86. I can only go by the rear caliper, no e-brake and pads are the same as the front. I was going by the person who sold me the bike.
Hondas and Yami's I know inside out, but I'm new to the TECATE details. Where else can I check?
I better change the heading on this post...

Thanks Xowner. Tomorrow I'll be taking a lot of pics, since the bike is still together. Waiting on parts so I can give this guy a quick make over.
Having a hard time finding the radiator shrouds. I know they are discontinued, but I read there was someone on E-bay that reproduce them? Anybody know who has them?

Searching for Hornet powersports on the site, can't seem to find it. All I can find is that the products are very good.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I need to find Justin...

Torker, I spoke with Justin yesterday and he is out of town for the next 2 weeks. He is going to give me a call when he gets back so I can go over to his place to test fit some of our products, pictures and shoot the breeze.
Please be patient, his shrouds are well worth the wait. DC's are nice but Hornets are spot on oem spec/color/finish.
I will also e-mail him. Perhaps you can IM him too.

Trust me, I have a lot of pics. Just waiting on a few parts so I can start a good thread. In the meantime, I'm working on modifying an ATC250R silencer so it can fit nice and neat. The lack of TECATE exhaust pics is driving me to something that I have no idea how it will look. I can say it will look good and it has to work just as well. It has been a slow process, now the pipe its hitting the rear fenders a bit and with new ones on their way, that's a no no. It needs to be perfect. Will need to make new fender mounts as the ones on it are a mess and I'm afraid are putting the rear plastics and seat out of the real alignment.
We'll see how this turns out.

Can anybody shed some light on the rear plastic mount?

Hi there guys. I've been away for a while, but, as usual, I'm back working, this time on the TECATE.

I have a question for anyone that has an 86-87 TECATE frame and can give me the measurement of the "threaded bung", or where the exhaust pipe mounts to the frame.

Here's a pic of the space in question. Where my finger is pointing there is supposed to be a "threaded bung", where the pipe mounts to.
And, as you can see, someone took it out. Why would they do that is waaaaaayyyy beyond me.

http://i42.tinypic.com/5ed6ir.jpg

Here's the best TECATE frame pic I could find (not mine, hope the owner don't mind me using for reference). The "bung" or mount can be seen clearly on the frame below.

http://i43.tinypic.com/11j9jed.jpg

I need to know exactly how long it is and exactly where is it located on that tube in order for the pipe to fit correctly.
Can someone help with those measurements? Please, keep in mind that the measurements need to be "spot-on". Otherwise the pipe will hit the brand new, OEM, rear fenders...
And we all know that's a no no...

That is the only thing need done for the frame to go out for powder coating.

Also, a few parts from John are about to get here. Coolant bottle, KIPS emblem and I don't even remember what else :wondering:wondering:wondering...

TECATE guys, please, help. I really wanna finish this for this coming summer.

You could consider mounting the motor and the pipe/ hanger and measuring and marking where you want the boss welded. The OEM exhaust hanger is like an "TL" shape (think banshee) and not straight although I did use use from a LT250R that was but it sagged and pulled on the rubber portion till it ripped.

If I remember I will try to measure it APPROXIMATELY in the next day.

Thanks nd. I got a new hanger for the TECATE. Mounting everything back to measure it will be a bit
difficult, since the engine is out and top end is appart at the moment.
If you or any of the guys here can give the measurements, I'll go from there.

Thanks for the reply.
