I am pretty sure it bolts up, but I have heard bad things about the 200xr engine not sure if they are true or not, but things about the head seizing and other things... You would have to deal with the backward kicker and different gear ratio.

you can use the 200x kicker parts in the xr to make it kick the right way,
it will bolt right up,it has a 6 speed tranny.
I should tell you that this info is just hearsay i haven't YET done this to my 200x,but I am currenty looking for a xr motor.

i haven't heard for sure if all yr. xr will work or not.

i think an older xr 200 motor would be a big improvement being the old ones had 4 valve heads twin headers and dual carbs.

Stay away from the dual carb setup, they are just a big headache. From what I hear, the older 80's engines are a direct bolt in, the 6 speeds would be good for woods riding, and the heads are almost identical to the 200x's, just a little sportier. I dont the think they are 4 valve heads, but I could be wrong. The top ends and heads will bolt up to the 200x, and from what I hear it is quite an improvement, the 26mm carb works really good also, but stay away from the dual carb designs, Honda only did this for like 2 years, and it turned out to be a flop.

An 86/87 200X Chassis with 250R Suspension and the 4-valve XR200R engine is a project ive drooled over doing for years.
