Well, this is my first time working on a 250. I have always had 200's. When I bought this big red the guy had 100's of washers in between all the brake cables. I ordered a set of shoes and they were for the front. So I gave those to my buddy that needed them and ordered another set and sure enough they sent me another set for the front.... Well I pulled the drum off today anyway and found the rear pads to look like new. So, I'm wondering if my drum could be worn that bad? I wouldn't think a drum on a atc would see that much brakes to wear like that. It doesn't look to be all scored up but I don't know what they are supposed to look like...

Check the position of the acutator lever on the cam..if someone took it apart in the past to lube the cam and put it back together in the wrong position it will screw up the brake engagement.
Some will attempt to extend the cable adjustment with washers..

The brake cables are toast, stretched beyond serviceable limits, hence the "shade tree engineering" shims on the cables. Just a guess.

That would be a good place to start. Thanks

The foot cable is new. I put that on today.

Make sure that the foot brake pedal is not seized to its pivot point on the frame. Like mine. Doh!

like doug said. i have moved the cam to compensate for a stretched cable... just makes the brakes closer to the contact piont so the cable dont have to do so much work...but for the cost of a new cable it may not be worth it....also some of the new cables are not exactly the right lenght..

As Doug said. There are timing marks on the cam actuator arm and lever your cables attach too. Your timing is off. Set those timing marks,,and like Doug said,,push that arm out and clean and lube it. Which will make you retime it anyhow! Everything will be slick as new, assuming your cables aren't hanging.

This is with the cables adjusted so the brakes are closed all the way. And like you guys pointed out, I need to adjust the arm back because its already where it should be with the brakes open... correct?
