Hey guys,

looking to widen my 185s for my wife. I seem to remember someone telling me 450r hubs will work and give me a inch or two?

Im pretty sure 200x hubs will work.

Can anyone verify this? I searched and only found a thread on 200x hubs.

Not really looking to gain more than 2 inches per side

Consider it verified.

Damn near every Honda ATV built uses the same axle splines except 350X and 3rd gen 250R (and maybe 2nd gen 250R and 2nd gen 200X - I just can't remember).

Use TRX 450R/400EX/300EX and similar hubs. Adds some width and gives you 4x110. Search for exact numbers if you need them.

Kind of an ironic question as I just went through this myself using an 85 200s. Wanted to set it up for my oldest kid to ride around.

While 450r hubs will work they are much more expensive unless you have a pair setting around. I bought a brand new pair of 400ex hubs from Service Honda, cost me $38 each. I mated the 400ex hubs with a new offset pair of steel 4/110mm 8" ITP rims and gained about 4 inches overall. Made it much more stable for a younger rider.

The splines are the same on a 84-86 200s and an 83 185s so I know they will interchange. Keep in mind though, the stock rims utilize a 4/130mm bolt pattern while the 450r/400ex hubs have a 4/110mm bolt pattern.

I have to see if I have a set of 300ex hubs. 6 months ago I had 10 sets but sold the heck out of them when word got out.

Is there any difference between the stock TRX 450R, 400EX, 300EX, 250X hubs? I thought they were all the same except for color? I admit, I never have had them all together at the same time.

Im not sure about the 450 hubs but the 400, 300 and 250x are the same. I have a set of 400ex hubs on my girlfriends 81 185s and they are a direct bolt on.

I just recently bought a 185s that came with either 86 200x or some kind of ex hubs and wheels, they are a direct bolt on but you will need to use the 4x110 rims.they give the short wheel base a good stance for more stability.

I have four sets of these. Not a problem in 6 seasons.

Alternative idea, there are 3" (each side) cast aluminum "hub extenders" that use 3/8" dia bolts (if I remember correctly) rather than the studs (you have to press them out). I have 3 sets, this way is bullet proof (200X 350X, 200X)

Alternative Idea, use thick walled aluminum tubing with 10mm ID (I think) cut to the proper length (with perfectly square cuts) and use grade 8 bolts to hold everything together. A riding buddy has done this and absolutely no problems on a 85 250R which is frequently jumped and ridden aggressively at all times.

Alternative Idea, find some rems of HDPE or similar substance and have them machined and use through bolts to widen the stance.

All viable suggestions IMHO
