Any ideas guys? I guess at some point in the Big reds life this exhaust was changed out. I want to get this Cover on the pipe, but do i drill holes in the exhaust pipe or Weld nuts on the pipe and screw it directly on? I just don't want to have to buy a new pipe if the welder goes to hot.. 162563

mark the pipe where you want the bolts and tack weld it on. keeping most of your hear on the bolt head and washing it over just a little to the pipe as not to get the pipe 2 hot and burn thru...

You can buy exhaust shield strap type mounts for the heat shield, thats what i did for my 200ES after putting a DG exhaust on it. I forget who makes the mounts, but they look like a small hose clamp with a u-shaped bracket that perches on the pipe and has a screw hole for the shield. Takes only a few minutes to put on.
Edit... Found them, they are made by Moose, trying to find the clamps separately but here is a picture showing what i am talking about with one of their universal heat shields.

That's real cool, I wonder where I could find JUST those clamps with the nuts in 'em, seems like some manufacturer would have these?
