If your rearend isn't turning, then the bearings might need to be replaced.

People are the downfall of a DX/DR rear end. No one checkes the fluid or looks for wear in the boot. Once it runs out of fluid it gets to hot and brakes the gear, if too much mud gets in the rear end it will mess it up as well. I have only seen the pinion gear problems, not that the U-joint cant break just that the pinion is usually the problem.

The only problems that I have seen with the shaft drive system was on a Yamaha 200 4 wheeler that had the rear pinion gear crack and a Yamaha 200e that had the drive shaft snap  (wonder what they were doing when that happened).

ya i have a bit of a problem... The bolt thing to check the fluid on mine is striped it was an allen key. Anyways I checked it after a long drive and the rearend was not hot. But anyone know how to get the allen key stripped POS out?

Have a hex head bolt welded into the stripped out plug. I did it and it works great.

Try loosening the rubber boot clamp on the left side where the the drive shaft is connect to the motor.Pull it back and look at the u-joint as you rock the machine back and fourth to see if it is connected or not.I had one go out on me, but it still drove but made noise. When I went to by the u-joint I found out that they only sell it with the yoke piece from the drive shaft and it was $180. So you may have to find a parts machine somewhere with one on it. I did and just so happen the rear end was blown out too, but not at the ujoint but at the other end in the differencial.
Soon you will know.
