Well guys I've been looking and waiting to either find a tecate or a 1st gen 250r. I have happened to run across a 1st gen r. It is a rolling chassis tanks fair and original fenders. The motor is torn apart. Wants 200 for it but 5 hours away. What is the rough cost to rework these motors? Needs a seat. Possible carb. Would it be worth restoring? Would need tires once running. These 1st gens are hard to find here in nd.
Thanks, Todd

Always try to get a better price but... I guess for $200 in your area that might be a good deal?

Complete running motors can be had for $250-$400 on eBay. You'll have more than that into a top and bottom end rebuild if you have a shop do it.

Seat pans will be hard to find and expensive, like the 185's

If you've got good fenders you're pumped

Most stock parts can be found for cheap on eBay and there's a ton of aftermarket parts out there. You can really build these bikes up nicely

Have fun!

Like Paul said you can get tons of parts off ebay and craigslist. DCPlastics makes a seat pan for the first gen 250r its around $50. I love my 81 250r as much as my 83 and 85. Cheaper is better but for $200 not bad deal. Also if you can find them there is a 360 mugen kit and the 300r topend for the 81-84 250r.Also Kustom Kraft will do a 290 big bore for the 81-84.
