Having a 4 stroke I am very unfamiliar with 2 strokes. Im going to go on a limb and say that Im probably coming home tomorrow with an '83 175K. It hasn't been ran in a few years so Im curious what specifically I should do before trying to crank her up. I sure as hell don't want to pretend I know what Im doing. Anyone willing to throw out some pointers will be greatly appreciated! When my wife finds it in the garage I may be murdered....so here's the heads up for the cops, I just made your job so much easier!

That model uses an oil injection system from the factory. Make sure it has oil in it before starting, or if it has been eliminated, be sure the gas is mixed, I run them at 32:1. Be sure to check out the vacuum line, going from the petcock to the spigot just below the cylinder on 82 , on the intake side on 82 model, or on the intake manifold if it is an 83 model I believe. Make sure there are no cracks in the hose, and that they are connected tightly. Try to get it running first, and if you have any problems, be sure to post them up.

Paid $300 a hundred more than I wanted. Tires still have the little danglers they're so new. It hasnt ran in 10yrs. But we do have a problem Houston. Im trying to remove the carb and I cant get the throttle part out. Seem like its seized up inside it. What gives? Also what fluids do ya'll use?

These are fun machines. I just blew the piston up in mine lol - There was a point in time my cousin rode it without asking. Poured straight gas in it without asking.....

Got about a year and a half out of it.. Heavily modified of course - Riden as hard as it can go every time i touched it lol (dunes! )

I've had 2 engines for these. Both had stock bores and oil injection was in use on both. 27+ years on both engines. They are horrrrible restricted. Like 12hp or something low.

Fluids:
I run Automatic transmission fluid in the tranny. Change it frequently with my riding style. For oil, I recommend Yamalube 2r(expensive)! klotz, or any other well known name. I run a 32:1 mixture.

These do not use a voltage regulator. the stock headlight and bulb must be in place for the lighting system to work(sucks). Im looking into a high output stator to fix all this. I may have found 1 :)

The clutches can be tweaked to have a higher stall. At the expensive of some clutch slipping. There are a ton of parts that swap out with these to give a ton of benefits.(clutching, rear suspension, better front suspension etc) Most parts are rare.

It has new tires on the rear because they are trail pro, lifetime warranty and never wear out. You could try soaking the carb in some parts solvent overnight, and see what happens. It would be a very good idea to purchase a rebuild kit if the slide is stuck, as it mush have been sitting a LONG time, or mice have gotten into the airbox. Be sure you can get the slide un stuck, and the slow jet (pilot jet) removed inside the carb, if not you will have to find a replacement.

here's a link to a manual that will tell you what fluids it takes. page 13, http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/Yamaha/ytm175_82-83_tri-moto_manual.pdf

its FREE!!!!! what tires should i get then? Also seems like I just keep finding more trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro thats old and brittle. Most of the lines are dry rotted. The point where the throttle cable Ys there is a plastic shroud type apparatus this just crumbled when touched.....that pissed me off. I have a feeling this is going to take longer than expected to even get started.

I figured you be posting something along these lines eventualy. The clue was when you said it hadn't run in 10 years. Unfortunatly for all of us here not a lot of trikes got parked because they were running perfectly. Welcome to the reality of owning a cool old trike:beer

I would disconect the oil injection and just mix your oil and gas yourself. That way you don't have to worry about the injector going bad and burning up you engine. I would use a good pre mix oil. I run Klotz Snowmobile techniplate in my 250r because it is a great storage oil and will not draw moisture into you engine while not in use for weeks. it is also a smokeless oil:cool: I would mix at 32:1 and rejet if you need to. On a small engine your going to be running at a good rpm so you will need a good amount of oil in your mix.
