That is amazing turn around time! Can't wait to see them. I have a LT250s that I need coated. The guy I had doing my powder coating for
my tractors up here closed up his shop.

The p/c shop in AK said it will take 2 weeks to get my frame and parts back, to the tune of 650.00. It will all be water under the bridge when it's all done tho. Getting a freshly powdered Z up n running......priceless!

Can't wait to see the after pics! I'm thinking about bribing the shop with an extra bill to hurry it up...lol...

if you guys could get me some prices from your powder coaters for a frame, swingarm , and whatever can fit into a milk crate size box .. with sandblasting.. I would love to know what people are charging...

hippyplz
01-15-2013, 07:46 PM
My guy charges 125 for the aftermarket 90 frame with 1 color and clear, 300 for my 200x frame with 2 coat candy red and clear.

Bryan Raffa
01-15-2013, 07:51 PM
300 for just the frame? that include blasting?

hippyplz
01-15-2013, 08:06 PM
Yeah, that was with blasting. It sounds high but this guy does really nice work and everything fits when ya get it back. I had both of my yfz done at another shop, It was around 300 for the frame, subframe and swingarm in a candy finish for each quad. The powder was so thick that nothing fit back together, bolt holes where filled with powder. They looked good, but took alot time to clean everthing up.

I just called the shop to change a few colors, my parts will be ready next week. My quote was on the high side because I gave him everything: frame, swinger, axle, carrier, 2 sets of pegs ( hagens & stock ) rims, engine cases, spring, basically everything.....3 boxes of parts, extra brake petals, shifters...etc...

He was not solid on 650 cause a lot of my parts were already blasted, just an estimate.

Raffa, your stuff looks awesome, congrats!
Did you have the box of hardware (bolts) PC'd or replated?

I had a TRX frame done at the only relatively local powder coat shop years ago (ALL COLOR). I say relatively, cause they're 45 min away. They charged $300 for a pre blasted frame. They have a minimum charge of $100 for ANYTHING, and charge $100 per hour for blasting (if you can't get it blasted on your own). OUCH! I'd probably have over 20K invested in powder coating charges with my projects by now if I'd not started doing my own PC work. Granted a good PC set up can run around 4K if you go with larger quality equipment. A smaller set up can be done for under $500 if you want to do stuff no bigger than say a swingarm.

Yea what do you do with the nuts and bolts? The shop doing my parts gave me a bag of nuts and bolts that they would not p/c..... I'd like them replated or refinished, but not sure where or who does this?

I do have a stainless steel kit that's supposed to replace most everything, but have not opened it up yet. There are parts from the kick start, foot pegs, swinger, here and there..... That are still unfinished. They told me to spray paint them.......

Nice looking stuff you got there!! Good price and quick turnaround too!

Here are two plating companies I've used if anyone is needing a reference.
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/140955-Another-OE-hardware-re-plating-post-BLING!?highlight=cascade+plating

"Tracy"
Cascade Plating
Elyria, OH
(440) 366-4931
Tracy does gold/yellow cad. and silver OE colors for stuff no larger than 30" long/diameter. He even replated some OE TRX 250R shock bodies for me. Tracy is very nice to deal with and very reasonably priced. Pretty decent turnaround 1-2 weeks. Highly recommend.

"Ryan"
Franke Plating Works Inc.
Fort Wayne, IN
(260) 422-8477
Ryan can do all OE colors (olive, black, gold, silver) and sizes (longer: axles & steering shafts). Franke Plating was a little less user friendly and a more expensive, with 2-3 week turnaround (just my experience/opinions).

Raffa sorry, not trying to hijack and turn your thread into plating 101... Just thought I'd pass the info on for you & others.

its silver vein with candy red clear.... silver vein alone will not stand up to the elements with out a clear over it.

Some guy around here will do any frame, blasted and coated for $100.

I'll have to ask Super350 about the details.

That place is only 12 miles from my house. I'll be there this next week looking at the color charts!

Where did you order your candy clear from? I've only gotten powder from Columbia Coatings and have had
good luck with them.

I had my frame done by Orange county powder coaters who does the work for OCC. I gave it to them blasted. For a 2 step process it was $300 just for the frame.
Slightly disappointed too because it's only been a year with practically no riding on it, and I see some rust spots near the welds showing through.

Who's frames are those Raffa? You going into production?

I got my clear at eastbay not knowing http://www.powderbuythepound.com/ is the way to go .. Accurate stock almost all basic colors

I've bought from Powder by the Pound as well. Had better luck with the John Deere green from Columbia though.
Will have to talk with the guys at Accurate to see what I need. Thanks!
