anyone know what correct timing is for tri-z running a 490it rod? it seems to be a little off. sorry for ignorance. but seems like i should be able to set it just like the manual says, because tdc is still tdc is this correct? thanks johnny
It has been my experience that the more you build the Z engine moreso when playing with stroke and port timing they tend to like the having the timing retarded. Generally you can tell right away when you kickstart them and they tend to kickback and backfire out the pipe.

Jonny,
When you ported the cylinder, did you have the head shaved or decked to the correct specs?
It could be that the spacer you are using on the jug may alter the compression and timing.
You may want to post all the modifications you have done, along with the other components you are using.
It's helpful when the right hand knows what the left hand is doing, or so the saying goes. ;)
I'm sure Mosh & Raffa will have the answer for you soon.
