I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a trunk lid for the ATC125 this weekend. With that said If any of the part reproducers want to try and pop some of these out for members, I will loan this out so that the entire club can benefit. If there is no interest I will put it up for sale.

John, Howdy, anyone want to try and make some of these?

Merry Christmas to all!

2nd gen? I'd buy it! And let it be repopped. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

If by 2nd gen you mean 86-87 no. It is a 84-85.

Believe Howdy + I talked about this too, can't quite recall the details or heck, may have been a tee-total different set of projects (?).
Okay, I need more info please (and a picture or two if possible). How many different styles of 125 trunk lids are there, by the sounds of it 84/85 are different then 86/87 ?
Do they fit any other Honda trike ? I am very unfamiliar with this particular trike.

I was going to re-pop these but the one I have has the 2 tabs broke off. I would be interested in buying the lid out right.

I've got a NOS ATC 110 trunk lid if you guys need it. I don't know if that's the same lid as the 125 or not.

Thanks Jonathan.
My first thoughts are about that one is the top will need to be polished out to make a nice mold.
I suck at plastic polishing~ period. I have a set of left + right 250ES Big Red side panels that are in outstanding condition but I knew Mr. Clean could take them to the highest level of smoothness so off in mail they went.
2nd. thought is a 2 piece pour mold.
Fabio, can you do up a picture or 2 of the top of yours please ?

I could buff her out nice as well, problem is I believe they we're slightly textured OEM. Will see what pops up first.

Yes, lets see what his looks like, okay,,,, gotta run along now. Over the Hills and thru the Woods thing :)

Haha, I'll have to grab it this week. I gave my 110 away last year to a friend of mine for a house warming present. He's not too far from me so I'll grab it soon, possibly tomorrow. I made sure to tell him what the lid was and to take the utmost care of it. Last I saw it was hanging up safe and sound in his shed. If you guys want me to I'll grab it ASAP.

OK boys, here it is. It took a little persuading because my buddy isn't huge on the internet and he hates forums. He didn't understand that I know you guys personally.

It's brandy new and completely flawless.

We're not looking for anything in return for usage of this part, that's why I offered it. While we're on the subject of 110's though, my buddy who owns this machine has been looking for a plastic gas tank for it. He's been wanting one for a while now. We'll buy a new one if we have to, but I was hoping I could track down a good used one for him if anyone has anything. Not looking for a handout, just a deal.

I have a 1985 Honda ATC 110 and its trunk lid is missing. I've never seen one on EBay and have never seen one on the rear of an ATC 110 or ATC 125M. What exactly holds the trunk lid down and prevents it from flying off the rear of the ATC? I suspect that Honda's method of securing the trunk lid in place was lacking and that is why they're rarer than hen's teeth.

If you're going to re-pop these then perhaps you can come up with a better method than Honda used to secure it. Maybe it could use a lanyard chain/wire rope to prevent it from flying away...

kb0nly
02-26-2013, 12:34 AM
It uses a rubber strap to latch down the back, its not likely to fly off because of the pins in the hinges. I think the main reason they are missing is they get cracked and broken and taken off and lost.

Awesome! Can't wait to see them.

The strap mold is being tested right now. It's a 3 piece mold designed to keep the mold lines the same as the original mold lines.
We are molding a couple straps with different material to get an idea on what material to go with. We visited "Da Master Molder" this past Saturday to get some ideas, and learn some new techniques. I was able to teach / show "Da Master Molder" a very slight amount myself. LOL

Here is the mold for the strap:

Here is last pictures I took of the lid mold as I was prep'ing it up:

163846163847163848163845163849163844

I tried something new to me with this prep work. I put a clay strip around the outer enge of the part instead of claying the entire back / bottom side. This is / was a HUGE gamble because if there was even a tiny crack the hollow part of the mold could fill with mold material. Not only would this be a pain to clean up, the mold material is NOT CHEAP. I poured the mold last Week and let it sit for a few days to cure ( good size mold ). Saturday "Da Master Molder" and myself flipped the mold and inspected how it turned out. We found the cavity leaked. How ever it was only a small amount 25-40 grams ( wewwwwww ).

First 1/2 of the mold looks pretty good. Next step is to Pour the other 1/2 of the mold. I was Calculating the mold material needed for this pour and found I don't quite have enough on hand ( I need a whole bucket just in case ). So I placed a rather large order for more materials. It should be here Thursday and I will be ready and waiting to pour it.

While I am waiting on those materials I will be working on my other more pressing project ( I needed input from "Da Master Molder" ). I do have enough material for that pour, so I will be tinkering on it for a while. I should be able to complete one of those molds.

The material for the final parts are on order. I haven't gotten a delivery date on it yet, but I am hoping for Thursday.

Once these 4 molds are finilazed and parts are getting tested, I will then get back to the P3 emblems. I got schooled by "Da Master Molder" last Saturday on a easier way to do this style part. I can't wait to get a new mold made and to test this Proven technique out with the new material I have coming.

Thats awesome Howdy! Definitely put me on the list of a lid and strap to when it gets done. Most likely that will turn into a sample to show to others and generate some more orders for you. Have you made any estimate on the cost of the strap and lid yet? I know we are still early in the game here just asking to tantalize some 110 owners.

A little update to Howdys update (that make sense???) ,,,,
Howdy was over to our place this week end and dropped off the main mold for Liway to run some production with.
Time is a very precious commodity for anyone, especially a fella who works full time, raising a teenage son, has a full blown house remolded project going on, well Howdy entrusted a very valuable mold for Liway to do sub work for him.
I have a couple of big projects coming up very soon myself so there was no way I wanted any more mold work, besides Liway is getting better at this stuff then I am.
So after sharing info about the mold that Howdy has already learned, she hit the hobby room and got started on her first go at the mold. Pulled her first part this morning that too me looked just awesome. It needs to set for a day or two for final cross linking (cure)before it gets the excess flash trimmed off.
I just wanted to get it out there (hope you don't mind me doing so Howdy) that this project is still coming along, just not as fast as anyone would like it too be but this sort of work is fun, but time consuming.

I pull 5 parts that look like swiss cheese and Liway pulls a good one first time. It only goes to show who's the "Master Molder".
This part malkes me happy but very upset at the same time. Glad she was able to do it, upset that I couldn't.

I wonder if we can get a mold of the 2nd gen 86/87 trunk lids... My only question is dealing with pioneering molds in the past, does the donor piece get "destroyed" in the mold making process?
