Ok I have an 83 185s that I want to rebuild the top end on but I want to give it some more power. My first question is if I get a 200 jug and piston will the 185s head go on it so I can still have my decomp lever? Next, will a xr200 cam go in a 185s head? Or if I get a 200 head will the rocker cover bolt on it for the benefit of decomp lever? And last with these upgrades and an exhaust what carb do y'all recommend?

Yes the 185 head will bolt onto the 200 jug, i did that to my 185 last week. As far as the cam, im 99% sure thats not a problem either.

I did the XR200 cam upgrade in my 84 200S

I'm not sure if there are differences in the 185 head that match up with the smaller bore on the 185 cylinder, but the head will fit on the 200 jug.

Your 185 rocker cover will fit the 200 head so you have the decomp.

The XR200 cam will fit in the 185 head.

As far as carb and exhaust, I used the XR200 carb and a DG exhaust,aAlthough SuperTrapp makes universal mufflers, I just haven't checked into if they will fit a stock head pipe.

Here is a link to my build thread for my machine. Some of my posts were lost in an earlier crash, so I re-updated it this morning:

This upgrade woke up my 200S very nicely. :naughty:

Is there any differences between the 185s head and the 200 head, valve wise, since I can use my rocker cover on the 200 head. And what 200 model do y'all recommend I use for the cylinder and head? And will I need to get a xr200 cam chain or does it matter?

Thanks for the help guys!

no. the 185s and 200s/e/m heads are the exact same.. the only difference is ot he 200x the head does NOT have the decomp lever.
if you want a decent power upgrade, take your 185 jug, get a wiseco 10.25:1 piston and use that. that will yeild far better results. you will honestly not feel much difference between the 185 and the 200 in stock form. and the xr200 cam is really not that much either. the best cam is a web stage1 so you can sue stock springs and get better than xr200 performance.

in short it comes down to. how much $ you have will determien the performance you can afford on the trike. I have over $950 in my top end for my 200x when I built it. wiseco 12:1, custom metal HG, custom cam, hardened rockers, web springs, custom CNC ported and valve job and more. so as mentioned it jsut depends on how much you want to put into it.

Cam chain is the same and like Oscar said go with the 10.25:1 piston like I did.

200x cam or xr200 cam will give the motor some more snap. a larger carb will too but a cam is just easier power you will feel. you could also just an over piston. 10.25:1 with a cam would give you some snap id just add a more flowing exhaust. off something. I have a few forsale.

What carb do y'all recommend with good flow exhaust and a xr200 cam and 10.25:1 piston?

XR200 carb. its 2mm bigger then 200x one if i remeber. honestly id your doing all that id get a 200x and swap a motor, because its gonna be more fun in suspension.

I'm pretty young so no suspension is not a problem but it does have front suspension. And I like the 185s because of the lack of things that can go wrong and I'm going to use it mainly for mud and long distance trail riding.

carb? go to ebay and get one of those minuki 24/26mm carbs. you can then get jets to get it to run the way you need or use piano wired drillbits to slowly size the jets to proper sizing.
