Have an 84 BR and I'm looking to change out the rear brakes. However, I haven't done it before but I can't imagine that it's a big deal. Tried looking for some videos on Youtube but nothing out there. Or, at least nothing that I could find. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, etc. on replacing the rear brakes? I assume that the skid plate needs to come off and what about the nuts on the rear axle? Or, do I look for a shop that would do it instead to save myself the headache/trouble? And, while I'm at it, how about the front? Easy, difficult, ???? Thanks.

Pretty easy. Providing nothing is froze up to bad. Manual makes it pretty straight forward. The skid plate will need to come off as you said. Front not bad either. Here is a link. Just click on the 84 200es manual. Hope this helps...http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/ Brake shoes are cheap and plentiful on ebay for them or honda dealer. Good luck

Manual available below in my signature as well... Just go to my server for it.

I have an 84 200ES and just did a brake job on it, follow the manual, and its easy, as mentioned if nothing is froze up. I put a jackstand under the differential and removed the right wheel just to make it easier, i have done one without removing the wheel, you have to remove the skid plate, axle nuts, the taper washer and o-ring under them, unbolt the brake housing and remove the brake cables, slide that housing back onto the axle, then you can replace the brake shoes and then reassemble. If you take off the wheel and the hub then you can slide everything off the axle and work on it, but you can replace the shoes with it still sitting on the axle slid out far enough to work on it.

Its not hard at all... As long as you don't have to replace the drum, they are usually a pain to get off. Clean everything out with some brake cleaner, you can clean up the hub with a scotchbrite pad if needed and wash it down with brake cleaner and your good to go.

The axle nuts are a pain usually, soak them down with some PB Blaster and get a good set of 41mm spanners to use on them.

A cheater pipe will help a lot on those axle nuts if they are frozen on.

Awesome guys and THANKS!

kb0nly, thanks a million for the manual, it's a huge help. Just working on getting the axle nut off, looks like that'll be my first obstacle.

The axle nuts can be a pain, usually once you get the first one off the second one isn't as bad after its broke free, but a wire brush to the exposed portion of the threads helps as well if there is rust and dirt in them. I bought a set of CNC'd spanners that go on a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar, i put it on my 24 inch breaker bar and those nuts don't stand a chance... LOL

Your welcome on the manual, i can't take all the credit, many have contributed to the collection!
