so the question is..do you finish the port machining with a dremel and install it or buy another and do it right.

If the piston is as bad as the workmanship you could just end up throwing you jug in the trash after a couple hours of running..

You could flip it upside down and drink your party likker out of it. Yea yea.

I have an idea!!!

My brother just got a degree in non destructive testing. Lets have him analyze the quality of the cast!! Where can i order 1, or you want to send me your lol

It looks like a cast hit with a cnc on the outside. The CNC material looks good, just not finished where it doesn't matter as much (for strength). Id like to see what testing shows for internal consistancy.

this place has the cheapest Wiseco pistons http://www.mfgsupply.com/471m06600.html then you have https://www.denniskirk.com/1983-yamaha-yt175-tri-moto.mmy and http://www.bikebandit.com/wiseco-high-performance-piston?m=147060

yeah, that looks crappy.... maybe that's just something that got thru poor inspection QC...
I would definitely get an exchange or refund
the next question would be... where did it ship from??

Yea Im sending it back or maybe to Rubbersalt for testing. I used to work at a foundry and i remember a tool we used to test the castings for hardness. If you have something like that i guess it would satisfy my curiosity although im almost positive its crap. Its got a shiny pot metal like look to it. Im not surprised though, I didnt even check the Wiseco price. The cheapest Wiseco is $126.02 compared to $22.99. I can probably get a Wiseco for around $80 bones, being as how I have a Tucker Rocky shop account.

Send it my way :)

As for the machines, my brothers got access to more than enough of them. He works for some one of the billion machine shops around here. Aircraft city! (wichita ks) :-D

the thing with those pistons from eBay is that there std size with no choice of choosing a different size and he probably needs an oversized one.

Send it back and if he wont refund your money bash the hell outta him with awful feedback. On the plus side its only 22 bones versus 100+ so your not losing all that much.

What was the sellers name for that piston. I really want to do some more research on it.

On a side note, if you dont mind an ever so slight loss im compression. I know of an alternative piston that will work. They are interchangeable with the YT175. They are a newer also :)

159318

The left is my weisco 175 piston. Ported it wide before the crank bearing spit part of it's self into a port(note the damage up top). The right the new stuff :)

They use the same bore, same height, same placement for pin boss(and size), The dome on the 175.. Has more dome lol

Looking at ebay right now. You can get:
WSM Platinum piston kits for $56 shipped. Rings, Hardened cast piston with friction and thermal coating, pin boss, clips.. Good stuff <-- used it in a 400 2 stroke.
Namura Piston kits for $55 shipped. Rings, circlips, pin boss, Hardened cast piston. Molybdenum/Teflon coated skirt, Anodized Dome. Good stuff
Vertex Piston kits for $68.95. Rings, circlipes, pin boss. I know nothing about these guys ?????
Namura Hi-Comp for $69.89 shipped. Rings, circlips, pin boss, Hardened cast piston. Molybdenum/Teflon coated skirt, Anodized Dome. Thicker dome for more comp. Exhaust side is cut down to advance timing(power without porting)! Go fast stuff <--
ProX shipped for $70.83, It's Pro X. No bearing. rings, pin boss, circlips.
Wiseco for $70.83 - nuff said. (Ive used several, always had a bearing.)

How is that for pricing ?:)

These will lower compression some due to the smaller dome. The flatter dome allows for transfer to flow easier >.> I'd honestly go for the higher dome OR cut the head down about .040

I built my buddys cr125 with a namura piston and that thing was mean.lol. What keyword are you using to find those? I cant find it by yt175.

RubberSalt

It's not for the YT175, but it fits it.

Where did you find the $23 piston? Ill trade ya a link for a link :p

Ok ok.lol. But Im gonna give it a guess anyway. Is it for a blaster?

You got it, Blasters. The jug on the blaster actualy bolts to the YT lol... stroke is 7mm to long and transfers stick past the case. With persuasion and some aluminum, you can stick a blaster reed cage in 1 of these. I rednecked 1 of them into the yt175 intake. You can pull 2-4 balls out of the clutch to give it a stall.(must be balanced !) Theres a ton to be done to get some power out of these things. It wouldn't be impossible to hit 30hp, just tricky.

The only piston in there that needs special treatment is the wiseco. They are very prone to seizing without proper warmup. After the break in, always let the trike warm up before hot rodding it around. Cast are significantly more forgiving.

Now hang on a minute! We all saw the movie “The Fastest Indian”. Our face eating friend Mr. Hopkins was making his pistons at home and they worked just fine. You may just have a $22.00 World record setting slug there! Did it come with rings too?

If they can get 41hp out of a 125, i can get 30 out of a 175 :-p :)

I don't know what im getting at the wheels on my 175. But if i had to put a guess on it, id say some where in the low to mid 20s

I'm considering pulling the top end and raising the transfer a hair. It's lung is suffering from emphysema. But at the same time. It runs great and i have a new toy :\ lol

Been over a year with it and no problems besides the carb boot ripping open (not enough support on air filter - repaired).

I've been friends with Rubbersalt for probably 2 years now, followed all his 175 projects and talk to him about other things often. Guy knows his stuff.

Except Tecates and Husqvarnas. I got him there.

I just milled my spare 175 head!!!!!! took off about .040. Need to sand it smooth now. :-D

This is my test part lol. Tested the aluminum welding setup (kinda works). Tested milling with a drill press (TIME CONSUMING!!)

I should make a thread for this.

Just a heads up. I forgot to mention that you must use the YT bearing. It's smaller than the blaster. They use the same pins.
