Well this is my second post about the same project, but this is pretty much the end of the project. Im pretty sure I'm ready so split the crankcase, but the service manual explains how to take off the oil pump and all that other stuff on the right side of the engine before spliting it. I have the piston head and piston off, and I want to know if I can skip the oil pump side and just split it as-is.... the manual doesnt go into much detail here. Thanks for the help so far!

I've done it that way... But I'd go by what the manual says.... As long as your in there you might as well give everything a good look....

Okay, so I can see that the shift drum is the problem now.... didn't need a new tranny after all! The gears aren't engaging all the way so thats the problem.... my next question: Whats holding the shift drum in? I didnt take apart the side with the oil pump so im guessing its in there somewhere  If someone could tell me whats holding that shift drum in there thatd be awesome. Thanks

Theres a little disk on the right (clutch and oil pump) side of the motor that has a 10mm bolt in it.. i dont remember exactly where its at....i do know its at the bottom of the inside.....its pretty easy to find....if you cant find it....shift the motor and it will spin.
