Was cruising through CL Thursday night and saw an ad for an '86 Big Red for trade for guns and at the end of the post he said he had a 185s also with a trashed motor on it but good plastics and seat and everything was there.... Gave him a call to see what he wanted for it, he said he was thinking around $150, so I offered him $100 and an older (but good running) metal bodied Homelite Super XL chainsaw, he accepted and I was on my way to go check it out. I figured if the motor was trashed I could take all the parts I need off of it for my '82 185s project.
Got there to look at it and it was in pretty decent shape, frame said it was a 1980, but the guy had put an '82 (according to the nembers on the motor) 200s motor on it but couldn't get it into nuetral to see if the motor was any good. Well, I got it into nuetral and wheeled it to the back of my pickup. He also gave me a couple sets of OEM wheels and tires for free (one pair was the beloved trailpro's LOL)
Got it home and within an hour I had the motor running off of starter fluid. Drained the old gas out and put fresh gas in, and within 3 pulls it was purring like a kitten! The oil needs changed and the valves need adjusted (excessive clearance) but the motor ran very well with plenty of power and the trans shifted great. I swapped the rear carrier from my '82 along with the axle/hubs and wheels/tires (the rear axle bearings were trashed) and will be getting the front wheel swapped today. I'm super excited because I never never never find these kind of deals! But enough of my rambling, here's the pics...
