Hi guys just though id post some pictures of the trike im having a go at fixing up. This is my first trike, and ill be trying to keep it moslty original. But a few aftermarket bits and peices will definatly be going on. A big thanks to The guys in the states for sending me various parts, without Americas second hand market, it wouldn't even be possible.
It will be getting pulled apart shortly and the frame will be getting repowder coated, along with a heap of other parts.
I will post a few photos of all the parts ive gatherd over the last couple of months that will be getting installed.

Hi guys just though i'd add a couple of photos of how the restorations going. Ended up getting a local Guy in Perth to restore it for me and hes done a really good job.
All it needs is a wiring harness and rims and tyres back from powdercoating. Ended up pretty much gettin a full overhaul, with alot of new OEM parts, new exhaust heaps of powdercoating, deacals ect ect. Tried to follow keeping it as original as possible, while also making it look a bit more aggressive.

Hi guys just thought i'd post a couple of pics of the finished product. I doubt theres much point in going into detail about whats original and what isnt because im sure youll be able to pik it. It was a long time dream to have a tri-z like this i hope you guys like the finished product. Thanks to all the people who shipped stuff over To Perth Western Australia to help me build my dream. Only things it's missing is wiring harness ( en route) and a new front fender. Id love to get a new Oem front fender, but it looks like there as rare as hens teeth.

Hi Guys, Im Having a recurring issue with my 85 , yellow and black tri-z. It keeps blowing the gasket out between the top and bottom end . And leaks exhaust gas out from the base of the cylinder. When i bought this trike it was More of a heap than originally thought. It looks like someone has punched the top of the case to try and make it seal, which makes no sense to me. Has anyone has this problem before, if so is there a Better way to fix it?
Thanks
Also does anyone no were the Gear sequence Decal goes on the 85's cant find any pics with them on.

I would guess they were trying to provide some traction to keep the gasket from slipping out. It almost looks like someone prepped the surface of the cases with an abrasive pad on a die grinder at some point, making the surface beveled. The best fix would probably be to empty the cases and have them milled flat while bolted together. Not what you'd like to hear, I'm sure.
BTW- thank you for asking this question within your own thread- I wasn't a member in 2012 and otherwise wouldn't have seen your beautiful resto on the 85!

Thanks for the reply drew, yes, I also thought this wouldn't be an easy fix but it does sound like what your saying is possibly the best option. It's getting annoying replacing this gasket after every ride.:( I also thought there may be some underlying issues with it. Thanks for the positive feedback on the Tri-z.

Very nice! Now you should consider doing some of the upgrades listed in the Wrench Report, especially adding the additional boost port (see before and after pictures below). Add a 38 mm carb and the Z can be made into a real fire breather. And if you can find one (try Greg at Offroad Innovations), get a Sprock cool head (see below) to bump up the compression.

this is not uncommon with these and is often caused by the cylinder nuts being over tightened which can warp the cylinder base and/or the cases . . as mentioned, find out which is warped and machine it flat.
you may be able to tell which one is warped by putting a straight edge on the surfaces.
if you put the cylinder on without a gasket, you should easily be able to see if something is warped [which it obviously is] or try and slip a .002 feeler gauge in it at different points.

Hi Barnett What your saying sounds like a good idea. Do you think i should just Get 2 new left and right lower cases, Im thinkin im going to rebuild the bottom end anyway now so i may as well find some cases with no damage, whats your opinion? My only concern Is that there could be other issues in the bottom end and im concerned a bit about fixing whats already there.

Mat,
I've been watching Youtube vids of offroading in Western Australia. The videos show several dunes and what looks like good riding areas.
Can you ride ATVs on all the sand dunes in WA? Bilbunya dunes, Israelite bay, Lancelin, Yeagarup. All these places look great for ATCs.

Hi stingray
you can ride legally at lancelin , you could ride them at bilbunya But its a pretty isolated spot, Yeagerup Is a National Park area, and cannot ride unregistered vehicles there. As for israelite Bay, i think you can ride there. again its pretty isolated so the chances of being picked up buy a ranger are quite minimal. In Perth we Have 5 Offroad riding areas 30 mins to 1.5 hrs from the city and you can lagally ride atc's, quads at all of them. ragind from sand dunes, to pine plantations and natural bush tracks. There is also quite alot of Beach riding to be had in WA.

Here is a Vid i made Of triking at Lancelin. This is were i discovered the beginning of my leaking cylinder Hence the random throttling thinking it was a cable issue.

You're fortunate to have many good riding areas within reasonable driving distance. I'm envious since I have to drive 12 hours to the nearest true dunes at Sand Mountain Utah. And you have the ocean.
Nice video. More please.
