Wondering if..

I change my tire size from 22x12x8 to 20x11x8 on my 200x will i have to change the gear or sprocket, or will i be safe?

currently running 22x12x8 bear claws and there not what i need as i don't play in the mud and snow that much, i'd rather get a 4x4 quad to abuse in the mud lol. so i'm thinking about grabbing some hole shots or what type of tire do ya'll recommend for trail riding and a lil road riding as where i live we can ride the roads.

The 12 and the 11 are just the width and should make no difference at all.

what about going from 22 tall to 20 tall? its not much of a difference but my buddy had 18 tall on his and keep burning clutch's.

Manual clutch keeps burning up?
I'd guess bad adjustment as opposed to irresponsible shifting.

But back to the tire size, if I line up 5 tires, all marked 22x11x8 they all look different.

They say it's best to measure around the tire to get a real reading.

If you lose 2 inches by going to 20", your axle should only be an inch closer to the ground.

So you lose a little clearance, and the wheels should spin easier with less engine effort.

I see lots or race type trikes with what looks like small diameter flat profile lawnmower type
tires, but I never got a good, clear answer on that.

I should be running 22x11x8 on my sx but found some new 18x10x8's and they honestly look almost the same height.

Hopefully someone will chime in with some usable info.

get the hole shot hd's 20x12x8 then get a 13 tooth front sprocket. should be good on that.

A 20" rear tire is a great size for the 200x , you will loose a little top end speed but gain a little more tork and as stated if you feel you need more top end just put a 13 tooth front sprocket to make up the difference .

As a general rule, one tooth on the front per 2" of tire change to keep the same gearing.

thanks for all the info, not really concerned with top end speed as we don't usually get out of 2 to 3rd gear while trail riding, and on the road i usually hit 5th and use quarter throttle. so i'm thinking hole shots or is there a tire like that a lil cheaper?

You will probably go 10 mph slower at top speed. I had holeshots on mine before it got stolen

You will LOVE going to 20" flatter profile tires like Holeshots or RAZRS... Yes it will rdeuce your overall speed, but as stated you will get up through the gears quicker (which is easily compensated for with a drive sprocket size change) and it will corner alot better...

Nothing mechanically to worry about when going to smaller tires. If you go alot bigger in tire size without changing the sprocket gearing I could see where it would be harder on clutches.. but 90% can be alleviated with a competent rider who knows how to properly use a clutch instead od abusing it...

Go with a set of razrs! The 20's are actually 20" tall, great tire...

Gearing is all personal preference, you can go with whatever you want. Me.... I'm more of a torque guy! Small tires stock gearing...

Fine to play in a mud pit. But some of the trikes (regardless of what HONDA felt) got 22" tires.

18 or 20" tires allow you to throw the trike around and much better for MX.

It's all up to your riding abilities. The difference of those huge lugs on your tire to a 20 or 18 are amazing; It WANTS to slide.

You may want to add a tooth on the front sprocket or a few to the rear but you'll be fine :D

i'm thinking 20s sound good as i don't want to sit much lower to the ground lol i'm a big guy and have the shock maxed out as it is, i need to look into upgrading the rear shock

Another good "square" profile tire is the Turf Tamer, made by Titan. They have a lot of different sizes, including 18,20,22. I have a set of 20's on my 350x, and they slide real good, and bite just right. May be a little cheaper than the ones listed above as well. I also have a set of 20 inch holeshots, and I would compare the turf tamers very close if not the same in performance.

hmm don't the turf tamer's look like lawnmower tire's?
