so i have an itch... well its more like a want.... a friend of mine is getting a running Z just needs to be re-painted. for about 3 hrs of labor on a costumers truck. well i may get this Z for a couple hundred bucks. but i dont want a normal ol 250 Z.

i have a smokin R right now. and after riding a friends crf450 i really like the 450 power.

question is which build would be simpler to put together?

a tri z 450

or

a atc450r?

i have full use of a machine shop. the only thing i dont have is a 5 access cnc machine.

id really like to go with a simple build. i have a friend who will sell me either the 450 motors for dirt cheap. as he buys builds and sells his drag bikes he as motors just sitting waiting to be used.

the tri z is the slower 250, id say build a 450 tri z. not many of those out there. good luck!

Either of those 2 frames are going to require heavy modifications..Both need to have the lower cradles altered significantly. The rear shocks will need modified. You will not get the 250R tank to clear the 450 engine without cutting and plastic welding the tank. The R backbone main tube will not clear the 450R carb. If you use a dirtbik R engine you will have chain alignment issues..The list goes on and on.

There are guys (TPC trikes) offering a full kit for a 450R build..Maybe look into them.

IMO you would be better off running a TRX 450R frame and converting the front which requires a whole new list of issues as well.

Agree with Mosh.

While no 450 trike conversion is simple or easy, TPC seems to have it down pat and is a race proven design.

There is a member here who did a 450 conversion on a 3rd gen R. It is truly a thing of beauty! But as I recall reading his whole build thread it was a very extensive build.... Try searching it out, the finished build was black much like the R depicted in Mosh's avatar pic.

I haven't done a 450 swap, but I have done the banshee swap on the Tri-Z. One advantage of the Tri-Z would be the shock mount is quite a bit lower, so hopefully you'd have some options on intakes.
