That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone...They've been phasing out 2 strokes in everything since the later 80's and early 90's.
I heard emissions regulations would halt 2 stroke production Motorcycles (ATV's) in 2005.

ATK is the only one i have heard so far that is exempt from that law ,,,,
they have 5 years longer to comply cause they are so small and can't absorb the high cost of retooling,,,, looks like i will be riding a new 700 cc two stroke quad from them in 2006,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :D :D :D

So, all two strokes will be illeagle in 2006? Or they just wont sell them anymore?

they'll be legal to have, they just wont make them anymore. Which will make yours and mine that much more important!!

Dont count your chickens before they hatch.. This rumor has been flying around for years.
there is also a new design of 2 stroke,.. and for the love of god I cant find that website again.. but a guy has designed a 2 stroke, that burns cleaner then any 2 stroke ever made. He has a working prototype but none of the large companies really want to put a lot of money into 2 stroke technology, since they are all working on the tractors.. hehe
If I find that website again, Ill post it. It was in the Aug or Sep of Dirtwheels also.. but just a very small article about it.

I've been following a number of the 2 stroke advances because I'm not one of the cam-and-valve guys either.
There are several new 2 stroke designs that hold some promise. Orbital Engine company has designed a "direct inject" system that eliminates most of the nasty exhaust gasses. Their web site is:
http://www.orbeng.com.au/orbital/home/home.htm
The down side of the Orbital approach is that the injection system requires some power to run - I think they claim it takes no more than 15%, but that still is a loss. Bimota used a similar system on their 500cc street bike several years ago with fair results. They would have gotten it sorted out if the company hadn't run out of money.
Another company, the name of which escapes me, is working on a 2 stroke that has the crank case and cylinder separated by a flexible membrane. The crank case has oil in it (like a 4 stroke) but the rest of the engine behaves like a 2 stroke. The expanding membrane pushes the air/fuel mixture into the cylinder directly rather than through the crank case.
Lastly, there are a number of people working on catalytic converter type devices to clean up the gasses.

yeah i was going to ask how much cleaner do the sleds and other 2 strokes run with fuel enjection. (efi)

Here's more than you really wanted to know:

Overall it sounds like with a few small changes that two strokes can be made dramatically cleaner without compromizing much.

Yah that is what I heard that around 2006 they will ban two strokes from being sold though you will still be able to own one.

In other words - the disc brakes that Yamaha put on the Blaster this year will probably be the last improvement ever made to the Blaster :?

I was surprised to see a redesigned blaster. Usually if someone is gonna weed out a model, they dont make any changes for several years.. or 10 or 12 in the case of the Banshee.. lol
