Recently got another 85' big sped. Poor girl has been parked outside with the tank and seat off it for 4 yrs. The rubber boots that go from airbox to carb and frame tube to airbox are hard, and actually shrunken. If the airbox is bolted down, the boots are 1/2" shy of being long enough.
Was wondering if anybody has found a way of reviving these? Was thinking of tossing them in a bucket of oil and hope it penetrates through it. Or does anyone have a better suggestion?
Im skeptical of used ones for fear ill have the same problem with them.

Interesting thought.
I know that some transmission leak stop oils actually melt rubber seals and make them swell but then again, what do you have to lose?
it may turn them into useless blobs of lord knows what.
usually ultraliolet or ozone molecular damage.
Ever seen tires stored near a compressor motor or welder?
maybe get lucky with some oddshaped radiator hose?

Brake fluid makes rubber swell but like the doctor said, it could also potentially turn them into useless blobs of rubber.
Mosh taught me a trick to boil them in water with some Murphys Oils Soap. When they have boiled for a while pull them out and stretch them while they are hot. Be careful not to burn yourself.

I think Murphy's Oil Soap is a pretty common item at most of the stores you listed Jeff.
