Is there a way to keep the front forks on an '83-'85 200x from bottoming out so easy? Could I put heavier oil in the fork to increase the compression? Maybe add some air even though the service manual says to run 0 PSI in the forks?? Any ideas..

Heavier oil is a easy mod and a good start.
You can also put spacer between the springs and fork cap to give additional preload.

What weight oil would you recommend. I am not over 200lbs more like 180-185. When I ride the bike it is hard to get over the whoops fast because the front is always bottoming out. Is changing the oil something I can do myself??

I am 200 lbs - I put a 1"PVC spacer in mine (it has to be turned down just about .020 or it binds in the tube - I used a sanding disc, lathe is better) and I put BELRAY 20Wt oil in there and I am very happy with the results. You way want to try 15wt and the spacer - enjoy.
Or you can buy 80$ progressive springs - your wallet!
