I was making some gears for a customer today and it got me thinking. I was wondering if I could use a steel alloy to make gears for a z or other machine? I was just wondering if anyone had made gears for their machine(s). It wouldn't take much time for me to write a program for it, just wanted to get some input on whether or not it would be feasable to do so.

yea i am sure you can. you would need the stock gearing to use.
Actually how much is it for gears? I'm asking because we race mini-quads and the stock gearing is crap. they are not geared well as well as they tend to break teeth off a lot when we put to much power through them causing us to replace motors more often. (9800 RPMs does wonders to a crank when it is slammed to a stop by a trans. as wellas the valves float big time and timing chains snap. i have had to repalce to 2 motors last season due to this issue.

I was planning on using 4615 steel due to its heat and wear properties.

84-85 125m 2nd gears would be a good seller if the price is right. I have parted out a couple of them just because of bad 2nd gears.

Really? The 2nd gear goes that bad in them? I have dealt with a lot of 125's and haven't had one yet with a bad gear... Knock on wood... LOL
