Can anyone or does somebody know how the shim stack inside the rear shock is supposed to go? I accidently dropped the stack when i took it off the shock to replace the seal and now it has no rebound pressure. I cant remember how the shims went. any kind of diagram or word layout would help. has very little bound as well. worked fine before even with a leaky seal. now its a pogo. If anyone knows or can someone tell me where to look would be great. :wondering

Just a suggestion, but the 400EX shocks fit in those bikes with minor mods and are a dime a dozen.

from what I remember ( never had a tecate shock apart) but start with the smallest work to the largest in the middle back down to the small shim...i would suggest giving race tech a call..point ya in the right direction..i havent had one apart in a while.

I can take one apart after work today and get some pics for you.

that would be cool if you dont mind. the top is ok. just took it aprt at work. redid the shims on top, just need to see the bottom where the nut is. think there are some shims missing. found a couple sites that explain valving shims. so i have come to the conclusion i lost some of the shims when i dropped the stack. luckily, i have some spare ones from another shock that was already apart. unfortunately the shim stack on that one was already apart, so i cant use that one as a guide.

Oh, if at all possible, would you be able to lay shims out in order?

I've had mine apart several times but it has been a while. If I remember correctly, they are stacked like an upside down pyramid on the bottom of the piston. In other words, the largest diameter shim is stacked nearest the central piston and they get progressively small towards the top. Also, the deep cavity of the central piston faces down. The two thick washers (the one with the indentations and the flat cover) go on top of the piston. I believe these are the only washers above the piston. There are no shims above the piston.

looking at the shims i have, none go big diameter to small, just different thicknesses. the ones below in the cavity are smaller, with a couple of real small thin shims. i found all the shims i have which is about 20. just need how many need to be stacked and where the correct spacing is supposed to be via the real small thin ones. i remember seeing them at certain spots before they grenaded as the hit the floor. lol

well, after a lot of trial and error playing with the shim stacks, my shock actually works better than factory. been reading on shock shims and how they work and put it together. now i need to figure out a good progressive rate spring. any ideas where to look for one?
