Fighting a pain in the a** 200x. Rebuilt it top to bottom but it is nothing but trouble . Latest problem is it runs hot and quits half way to the trails . This thing literally has had everything done to it from the crank up to the cam and i have to tow it home every night. It runs great cold and local but once we start to romp on it long distance it eventually overheats and dies . It is basically an unreliable POS .

What would make this thing run hot then not be able to start till its cool ? I have a 200s which tows it hole nightly and the temp difference is night and day .

Any ideas ???? Thanks

Does it just feel hot or did you hit it with a temp gauge?

Does the headerpipe glow red?

Ignition timing and advance mechanism all perfect?
Anything change when you run a little choke on it?

Have you tried the search key?

look at your spark plug. What color is the tip?

The plug is a light tan .

A light tan is a good color. Its either your timing or you have the wrong sparkplug. The correct spark plug is either an NGK DR8ES-L or a Champion RA 6YC

did you use a 200c jub when you rebuilt it or a 185s overbored? what kind of piston are you running? are you sure you have oil getting to the top of the motor?

Lots of trouble lately with spark advance springs breaking and
advance plates sticking etc.
Almost gotta be somethin' easy.

Such a shame after all that work.

Sounds like something that would happen to me.

Double check your timing and put a oem carb on it with a rebuild kit. Also check for leaks around the intake manifold. Sometimes after a fresh build you need to "fine tune". Take your time and don't get discouraged....you'll get there :)

leaking manifold will not cause this.
but you know, a bad pickup could or spark advance could. may consider replacing all thsoe parts. Also pull the sode cover off the flywheel side and inspect. i had a big-red that had a problem with soemthing slightly loose causing it to act that way when it got hot, it swelled up enough to grab the side of the cover. Once i took it appart, i saw what happend, fixed it and everything was perfect after that.

I would also check your valve adjustment..generally they raise in the seats after a rebuild or new valves being installed and the rockers will hold them open until they cool down..

The Crank timing is on . Fiddled with spark timing in every setting . Has spark has compression , cleaned carb , dosent even want to start :-( . After we pop started it we rode it about mile home hasnt ran since :(

I will check the valves next

what is you had a piston ring fold upwhen installing? I get the feelign your going to have to tear into it.

Checked valves were good ... We tow started it and it started up but ran like do do idled high then stalled ect ect . I am going to dump this ebay carb for an oem .

you said it was stuck and had over compression when trying to start correct? wait.... i was thinking of soemone else's post very sorry sir.

yea swap the carb, you probelby are runngin lean and need a new carb. also are you sure your intake boot is good as mentioned? it ay look ok, but coudl be leaking still you need to take some carb cleaner and spray it on the boot while the bike is runnign andsee if idle drops or speeds up or no change.
