A pulling motor? As in tractor style pulling? Dude you'll cook a 500 engine doing that kinda thing with it. They like airflow. I would get a nice stout 4-stroke to build a pulling engine with.
Also, electric start isn't quite what you expect with these engines. The best that can be done realistically is a hand held car starter which is pretty much limited to pit starting duty.
Also, most people don't ever use the full stock potential of a 500 engine so porting is kinda a waste.

Thats what I was looking for the hand held starter . And I think it would live for all the longer it will get ran(maybe 200 to 300ft ) wide open under a load. there is banshee's that pull and there was a lot of 250r's that pulled and held up fine. And any more we are pulling against 500 to 1000cc 4x4 bikes/utvs

I would tend to agree with your train of thought here, but I've seen some videos right here on 3ww that prove this theory wrong. Apparently 2 strokes can pull a sled quite fricken well.
I'm gonna see if I can dig up some vids.

Whatever floats his goat man. I'm not a big fan of "pulling" anyway so I won't put anymore of my thoughts out there. I do have to ask the original poster have you ridden a CR500? Why don't you start with a fresh stock rebuild and then decide if you need to go further with performance work.
I mean if you're looking for big HP and big power why not build a banshee engine. You might start out smaller but you can end up bigger that a CR500.

This is the Tri-Moto from the above ad so you can still see it when the ad does expire. I wish the pic of the Tri-Z was still there.

I actually didn't find the threads on 3ww I was looking for, but there have been quite a few guys in the past who have posted that pull with two strokes.
