Hi guys,
I've got this 84 200x awhile back, has a cobra pipe, uni air filter, no lid. I had the engine completly torn apart to repair the kicker gear and do the 6 speed swap.

My problem is that I cant get it to start or run(cold) with the choke on. It will eventually start without the choke but its getting hard with cold weather. Once its the engine is hot, it runs perfectly and pulls hard. I did put a brand new chinese carb, main jet 110, pilot 40. I tried to put the choke on after I just started it(still cold) and the engine died immediatly...

I'm at lost right now and don't know what else I should check because it runs great once hot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Throw the chinese carb in the trash and buy a good used stock carb off ebay and a carb rebuild kit . Not the cheap way to go but it will run right .

^ what he said.
that being siad, I did buy a 24 or 26mm mikuni carb for my 200x and i have no issues ever running it. those cheap chinese ones are junk. the mikuni's are cheap now. $40 or so shipped on average. I do recommend you either boil the stock inlet tube to fit the bigger carb into the stock pipe or remvoe the box and run a uni dual stage foam filter. (with good quality foam filter oil on both sections)

Something like that?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MIKUNI-VM22-26mm-Carburetor-Dirt-Pit-Bike-Honda-/261072452920?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc9217d38&vxp=mtr

It says for 110/125cc 4 stroke, but I guess that's what I need anyways?...

No, something like this....

And then I would rebuild it (if it needs it) with this....

I'd rather buy a new carb instead of another used one that may not work either. I got the stock X carb but it wont run unless its choked and bogs down when I just touch the throttle. I rebuilt it and cleaned it numerous times.

That's why I liked Oscarmayer suggestion. If I could get a brand new mikuni carb that should be of somewhat quality compared to the chinese crap. I wouldnt mind changing my air filter along with it...

yea that will work.
guys, sometimes the carbs are jsut too far gone to rebuild the slide tube (where the throttle slide is in) gets ovaled along with other non-repalcement parts get worn so sometimes a carb is no logner rebuildable.

That the exact one I run on my 200x. Now the jets may noe be right, so you need to get it,a nd measure the jets to sizes and then find the jets at a place that sells them. I had to order 8 different sizes and 2 different idle jets to get it right. But man, it makes a big differentce.

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/Mikuni_Main_Jets_C15.cfm

here, measure the main jet head size and order the sizes you need. you probelby want to start fof with a 110 main. then order 115 and 120 main as well as a 105 jsut in case. each engien is different.
pilot jet order +1 size to be sure.

for air filters, you will need a 1.5" uni filter with outer filter. (2 stage) and i highly suggest foam filter oil and cleaner.

Thanks a lot Oscar! That's the kind of answer I was looking for!
I gathered a good amount of jets trying to get this X going so I should be alright playing with jet sizes.
That's the way I'll go and hopefully it will work right.
Thanks again everyone.

Hard to believe but I just had a 90 doing the same thing.
Been thru that sucker 10 times, carb, elec connections, coil grounds.etc etc.

For no real reason except desparation, I nipped the last 1/4 inch off the coil wire.
It gives the plug cap screw some fresh copper to bite into.

Starts instantly, idles like a baby and I still don't believe it was that simple.

I'll try that tomorrow. Its worth a try!

Kind of sounds like a valve may need adjusted to me if the problem goes away when it warms up?? Carb issues usually stay no matter what the motor temperature is? May be worth it for you to check valve clearance before you bolt another carb on. Good luck...just my 2 cents....

What I meant to say it that when the engine gets hot, it runs and starts fine with the choke off. But as soon as I put the choke on, it dies no matter if the engine is hot or cold.
Sorry if I'm a little hard to understand at times
